Some Holiday News.
I just thawed out and that was on Thursday so the day should be renamed to Thawsday. You go on holiday to the sun for several reasons - well I do. They are to see some beautiful blue sky and sun as well as get a warm up from the cold of England. I love the heat and it annoys me when I have to sit in air conditioning just because someone else is hot. Why go to a hot country if you cannot take the heat? Oh, I know why, just to annoy me and make me cold. We arrived at Manchester airport for our departure and I had frozen everywhere in my body due to the taxi driver being Scottish and preferring the cold. Just thawed out and the plane trip over was coolish but I was seated between to gentleman which kept me warm. Cheddar Cheese Puffs 2 cups grated cheddar cheese 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened 1 cup flour, sifted 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon paprika 48 small green olives, stuffed with pimientos Blend cheese with butter. Add flour, salt, and paprika; mix well. Mold 1 teaspoon dough around each olive to cover. At this point you can refrigerate or freeze puffs for up to 10 days. Bake puffs at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Serve hot. Yields 48

Ham-it-up Crescent Snacks
HAM-IT-UP CRESCENT SNACKS 1 (8oz) can Pillsbury refrigerated crescent dinner rolls 4 thin slices (4x7-inch) or 8 thin slices (3 3/4x3 3/4-inch) ham 4-oz Swiss or cheddar cheese, shredded 4 teaspoons prepared mustard 2 tablespoons sesame seeds Heat oven to 375 degrees. Unroll dough into 4 long rectangles. Spread ham slices with mustard; sprinkle with cheese. Starting at shortest side, roll up each rectangle; press edges to seal. Coat rolls with sesame seeds. Cut each of the 4 rolls into 5 slices, forming 20 slices. Place cut-side down on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately remove from the cookie sheet. Serve warm.

Cream Of Broccoli Soup
CREAM OF BROCCOLI SOUP 1 tablespoon butter 2 slices bacon, chopped 1 medium onion, chopped 1 small leek or 2 scallions, chopped 1 stalk celery, chopped 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour 4 cups chicken or beef stock florets form 1 large head of broccoli, chopped 1/2 teaspoon salt freshly ground pepper dash of ground nutmeg 1 cup light cream Melt butter. Saute bacon, then add onion, leek, and celery. Cook until heated through. Add flour and stir until well combined. Stir in stock; simmer for 15 minutes. Add broccoli; simmer for 15 minutes. Pour into blender and puree. Return to pot and season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Stir in cream and cook until heated through; so not boil. Yields 4 -6 servings

Old Time Beef Stew
OLD TIME BEEF STEW 2 tbsp. fat 1 lb. stew meat 1/2 lg. onion, sliced 1/2 clove garlic 2 stocks of celery, chopped 1/4 tsp. pepper 1/4 tsp. paprika 4 c. boiling water 1/2 tbsp. salt 1/2 tbsp. lemon juice 1/2 tsp. sugar 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce Dash allspice 3 carrots 8 potatoes, diced Heat fat in Dutch oven. Add stew meat, brown on all sides. This should take about 20 minutes. Add onion, garlic (on toothpick so you can retrieve it!) boiling water, salt, lemon juice, celery, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, paprika and allspice. Gentle cooking is what makes the meat tender, so cover and simmer (not boil) 2 hours. Stir occasionally. When meat is almost done, add the vegetables. Simmer about 30 minutes longer, or until everything is tender. Discard garlic cloves. 6 to 8 servings

Indian Summer Vegetables 2 ears fresh corn 3 tablespoons butter or margarine 2 medium green peppers, cut into 1/2-inch strips 2 medium onions, sliced 6 medium zucchini, cut into 1/2-inch slices 4 medium tomatoes, cut into quarters 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper 1/4 teaspoon sweet basil 1 1/2 cups grated Parmesan cheese Cut corn off the cob. In a saucepan over medium high heat add butter and melt. Add green peppers and onions. Cover and cook for 5 minutes, stir once or twice. Add 1/4 cup water and remaining ingredients EXCEPT the Parmesan cheese. Cover and cook 10 minutes or until vegetables are crisply tender, not mushy.Shake occasionally during cooking time. Serve sprinkled with Parmesan cheese.

Oriental Cashew Asparagus 1 pound asparagus spears 1 1/2 cups fresh button mushrooms 1 medium red onion, cut into thin wedges 1/4 cup chopped sweet red pepper 1 tablespoon butter or margarine 1 teaspoon cornstarch 2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce tablespoon water 2 tablespoons cashew halves Snap off and discard woody bases from fresh asparagus. If desired, scrape off scales. Bias-slice asparagus into 1-inch pieces (you should have 3 cups). Place a steamer basket in a saucepan. Add water to just below the bottom of the basket. Bring water to boiling. Add asparagus to basket. Cover and reduce heat; steam for 2 minutes. Add mushrooms, onion, and seet pepper. Cover and steam for 2 to 5 minutes more or until vegetables are crisp-tender. Remove basket; discard liquid. In the same saucepan melt butter; stir in cornstarch and1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Add the teriyaki sauce and water. Cook and stir until thickend and bubbly. Return vegetables to saucepan; toss gently to coat.

I'm use to having weird things happen to me, but thus far, today takes the cake. Waiting for the bus this morning on a top of a snow pile. I'm on my cell phone leaving my uncle a message who is all traumatized he didn't get my gift yet when it was delivered on Monday when out of no where, this woman says, "Hello." I ignore her because I'm on the phone. She peeks her head around my hood, "Hello. How are you?" This just annoys me. ON THE PHONE!!! So Sad
I am just writing to get some of this off of my chest. Dad is still in the hospital and getting worse. He is so sick and in my mind and body I know he isnt going to ask much longer. I hate to see him suffer the way he has. He is still on the ventilator and they cant get him off of it because he has attacks where he cant breathe if they lower it. They did trials and turned off the ventilator and he tolerated it for 3 hours the days he has done this. He has lost all of his muscle tone, shakes all the time, and now he has gotten an muscle twitch. He can lay there and just all at once his left side just twitches very hard. He told his nurse its like he has a shock. He had a mini stroke when he was up in the Columbus Hospital and now his left side has been pretty messed up. He has gotten up and walked like 14 steps and then back to the bed with the help of an walker. I just dont know what to think anymore. I dont want him to suffer but I dont want him to leave me, leave us. I kn

Wish I Had Time For One...
I'm back at my work desk. I almost wasn't. The bathrooms in our office are on a different floor. I went down the stairwell to get to them. About halfway down the stairs, though, I stopped. Week 16

this hair of the face, also known as a beard, has become somewhat of an annoyance to me yet im loving it. Im only temporarily letting it grow once again until my 22nd birthday. Which is on February 26, 2009. i believe now it on its 3rd week of growth. My daughter started kindergarten this last fall. I actually had no idea how much it would affect me until I walked her to school the first day. I know that every kid ( and parent ) goes through it, but there is something about pushing your own out of the nest that is a little heartbreaking. The school seemed HUGE!! It was so much bigger than my school when I was a kid.
