Rod Stewart - Maggie May Rose to Number 1 in the charts October 1971 and shot Rod Stewart to fame. Lots of memories come flooding back with this one, October I joined the army, never before had I felt so lonely and homesick, here I was stuck in a strange place, with strange people who just wanted to bawl and shout and you all day. Over the weeks that passed you relised these strange people werent as bad as you initially thought, as you felt yourself getting fitter and stronger, as your self discipline developed, nothing they could do and say would bother you. You were a SOLDIER, you were on level terms with them now. The nights because you werent allowed to go out of camp was spend in the camp NAFFI, normally just for a quick 30 mins break from polishing boots, pressing uniforms. Well i updated my list of videos, i didn't think anyone had them until i went searching this morning LOL. Damn they bring back some good memories. Recently i've been getting some strange phone calls. Usually if i miss the call i check the number but as they are withholding, then there is no way of checking who it is. Now anyone who withholds their number has a reason, but i got a message from a so called information centre saying that there was a message left for me. Well the number spoken was for a rented number, and doing a search on google revealed that the company renting the number can earn up to 4p a min. Now multiply that many times and you can see that if enough people phone to see what the message says, they will make a tidy profit. ok i remember what i was going to say the other day, it was about making bulletins sticky. I wanted to see what happens when you try to make one sticky and found out, it costs you $5 for 24 hours. At the time that seemed excessive but then i

For those of you who don't know me, I am an audiofile. Which is why messenger and online stuff is good for me. Since i can have my music and not have to be that close to people. I am battling, still, a fear of people. But I'm getting better. Now to the main point. In my search for my type of music I have come to rest upon Thrash as my favorite. But too much attention is paid to dificulty. That is why I have thrown out old Ideas of Metal and formed my own. I am working on a band that will not limit itself Musically. I will sing what i write. I will play what i play. The same rules will be followed by the other members. I pull riff influence from all types of metal. i pull vocal influence from all types of metal. I am needing a bass player with their own style and tastes in music. I have a drummer that will need to play fast but not compromise the sound. Musings On The End Of Times
As those of you who are history/education buffs, you'll know that this week is "Armageddon Week" on The History Channel. At the moment, I'm watching a program about the Antichrist, and his coming, based on religious mythology, historical facts, with a few comparisons to current events. Given that the general thought, both biblical and commonly, thinks that the Antichrist would be an educated, attractive, charismatic individual, with the potential to become a living legend, it's probably pretty safe to say that GWB isn't the Antichrist, as many have surmised. Honestly, I'd be more likely to call Al Pacino the Antichrist, after seeing his HIGHLY charismatic portrayal of Satan in "The Devil's Advocate". I seriously doubt that good ol' Al is the Antichrist. If biblical writings are to be believed as far as predicting the Antichrist, I'd say it's likely to be someone in the next election for the highest seat in government (not necessarily American). I have had music in my life from the time I was a tiny girl. Dad's guitar was never put away. We always had the Friday or Saturday night neighbour parties. If they weren't pulling into our yard, we were pulling into theirs. Everyone could sing... even those of us who couldn't! :) Country and old time gospel were the mainstay of the prairies but throw in Christian Worship, bluegrass, good old rock, bit of folk and the eclectic selection made it impossible for anyone to be left out. Music - The Bandie Chapter 1
Music - the one thing in the universe that I can enjoy and no one can take that away. It is my biggest interest by far. I was the bandie from 3rd grade right through High School. My major instrument was clarinet, 9 years of private lessons. I was first chair through 2 years of high school. I was the band secretary and music librarian. I made sure everyone had their copies to memorize for marching band, that concert band everyone had their copies and the soloists knew their cues with coding on their's. I am class of 1979 so my first experience's of playing concerts was Simon and Garfunkel, Chicago, etc.........marching was a bit of fun. It's 12.55 am and I'm sitting in my office at work, having just announced lights-out to 100 twelve year olds and their teachers, who are sleeping in the museum tonight. I'm listening to 'Red Light' by Grails and about to start reading 'The Three Impostors' by Arthur Machen, although I’m considering giving that a miss and just twatting about on here until I pass out on my keyboard. It's the only chance I have to talk to some people on here, time differences being what they are. Sleep deprivation is an interesting thing. I was one of the first experiments I tried in my whole 'altered states', alternative mind space things. I found a lot of shortcuts later i.e. drugs, so I'm considering trying to stay awake all night, which is something I haven't done for a while. I found that I got very sensitive, in the literal sense, when I hadn't slept. my daughter and i are going through a music war. lol what else is new right. well this. see i dont' mind her music infact i have most of the tracks she loves down loaded onto my computer. our argument is that she says a song is no longer good when it's gone out of style or is no longer hot :O Please tell me this isn't true.. Hey Folks!! I was just sittin here, listening to some music and I got to thinking about great musicians of our past, present and what not. Jimi Hendrix's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner that he played at Woodstock, which happens have to be one of my favorite songs, by the way, and I asked my buddy a question. We compared guitarists Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana, who by the way are two of the most innovative guitarists of their time, and in my opinion I feel that Jimi Hendrix is by far one of the best guitarists, past or present. Now I haven't forgotten about other guitarists like Eric Clapton, B.B. King, or any others. So I'm posing this question to all of you because I am curious as to see what you all say. Sometimes things must get worse before they get better. We're in the backcountry of West Virginia...hell, I can hear the banjos here. It's a far cry from anywhere I've ever lived before. But we'll have our own place soon. I honestly can't wait...and hopefully there we'll no longer have dialup net. Because it's really irking sometimes when I'm trying to do something quickly. Maybe here Taima and I will finally be able to make ourselves a home for ourselves and the little one. Especially since a little one needs stability in his life. He was uprooted from Baltimore at just over a week old, and has only really known W.V. as home. Let's hope it stays that way.

for March 11 07... - Elgar's string quartet in E minor. Even though or maybe because in this (and other works around the same time) he sounds less like "Elgar" - or rather, there's less of that Elgar that does put some people off, that did put me off once... - than before. Well, last night was the best night I've had in a long time. I went to TOC w/ Steph, Niki (aka DJ Nikita) & Danielle. We arrived at Tinkerfield at 4:15pm hung out in the parking lot until the doors open. I was the D.D. so everyone else was downin' the beers while waiting. The first thing we did was hit up the t-shirt stands. I got an awesome shirt that Steph ended up wearing at the show. The bands were great. I met some other Echelon member that were fuckin' awesome! Love you guys! So, right before the sun setted I got seperated from everyone else. They just disappeared. So I tried lookin for them, couldn't find them. So I said fuck it, had a kick ass time anyway. I ran into the other Echelon again, they were soooo lucky. OK, I know this isn't the most earth-shaking topic for a first blog, but I'll make more later. I'm just weary of all the attention given to American Idol and the vocal lightweights that inhabit that world. (Except, of course, for Sanjaya, whose vocal prowess, not to mention his sister's breasts, is truly jaw dropping.) Ok, to me this is absolutely infurating! People who think it is cute to utilize other's music to express their emotions. I have seen it so much recently that I actually feel sorry for those who created the lyrics and the actual harmonies and melodies (muscians know these terminologies). As a musician myself, it bothers me when people copy my stuff and try to make their own. This means those that copy lyrics and send them to a "loved one"...that is the worst offender of all. First of all, I thank you my friend OffiSir for finding me an outlet for the complexity of thoughts I endure. Choices and consequences. It seems that choices made satisfy missing elements, and then create new challenges. Would be bliss to choose to quench one desire without creating another dilemma. The never have enough when the plate is overflowing state of existence is perplexing. More, more, more, yet never filling addictive thrill rush release only to be followed by deep abyss emptiness. So I was in the studio tonight attempting to get some work done on a relatively (within the last six months) new piece of music I've been struggling with for some time now and I got round to the bit where someone like me - a guitar and bass player - starts hunting around for that perfect sound out of one of his keyboards. Ever wonder how mid-life crisis starts? I have been thinking about this for a couple of days. I believe it starts when you a person looks back on their life and realize life has happened and they were just surviving. This is where I get stuck every time. I mean how can surviving not be living you do things everyday. Some times the effort to survive is paramount at other times it is no big deal almost effortless.

I like most types of music with the exception of Opera. For some reason I cannot get on with it at all, sounds like people trying to warble which is false and wrong. The main artist I like is Gary Numan. I have been a been a fan of his since he first started back in 1978. My brother being older than I was into punk music at the time and bought many singles. In 1978 he bought Tubeway Army's (Changed the name to Gary Numan for the release of 'cars') second single 'Bombers'. Being a ten year old boy at the time a song about war and bombers really appealed. Anyway seen him live at thirteen times and met him a few as well. I often just listen to artists of the late 70's early 80's. These include Depeche Mode, Human League, Devo, OMD, Kraftwerk, John Foxx, David Bowie, Ultravox, and Duran Duran. In growing up and serving in the U S MARINES during the Vietnam War I was very aware of the music from the mid 1960's to early 1970's. That music mirrored the happenings of the time and some of the most interesting music, I feel, was Vietnam related. In addition to the songs produced during the Vietnam War, there were several excellent ones that came out in the 1980's. These later efforts give more of a logical, historical perspective on the war and deal mostly with the lasting effects on the individual Vietnam Veteran. I believe that there needs to be a license for people to have children. Yesterday, I was in a store and heard a mother talking to her child, who couldn't have been any older than a year. I've run into a couple in my time - stars of varying magnitude. But to me, the biggest star I've ever met is Prince. Prince Rogers Nelson. His Royal Purple Badness. TAFKAP. He's one of my heroes, despite my opinion that he's usually in sore need of the services of an outside editor. I ignore most of his 90's output, and with good reason. But when it comes down to brass tacks, he's always been the man. I saw the Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999, Purple Rain, and Parade tours, and would have gone to the Sign o' the Times tour as well, had an emergency business trip not raised its head a couple of days before the concert. Music Buff Needed!
Ok, here's the thing. This has been driving me crazy for about a week now and I figured since I (nor the immediate people around me) can figure it out....I would put it out in FUland. There is a song that was done in the early 90s (I think) that has what sounds like the same melody as the breakdown part (that starts on minute 1:45 of the below video) of Three Days Grace's "Scared." I think it might also have some of the same lyrics but I am not sure. It's basically the background music that clicks my brain to another song. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try to help me figure it out! So I'm a rock fan and I've noticed that some of the music that my bands put out are getting alot of heat cuase they changed there style just a lil bit. I mean don't artist have to grow and try new things why can't these "so called fans" see that all bands will try something new and diff then what we are used too. Just beucuse its not as hardcore does that make them a sellout. It just makes me irritated but then again I have to remember that these kids are young and don't have a good concept on music. if there is no change then you wont get very far right? ^_^

so i talked to my sister today she told me my mom sold al of ernies records to some people who want to open up a record store.for 5 thousand. my heart sank not just because its all gone but at such a low price my memories are being sold.. i always knew they had to be sold but deep down i had always hoped to buy them oneday. im still very passionate about music but along the road ive traveld the passed few years something inside e died it makes me sad because i miss the music. i know one day ill get back into performing because its alll ive ever known i just hope its not too late. anyone who saw me perform they tell me to do it again because i was meant for it but at the same time im afraid becausre i dont want to become what made me stop loving it for so long.before i die i may not have a family or anything really except a musical empire and as long as i go out with that i think i can be semi content.. until then i guess i will continue to be afraid

Music, Unix, Lilypond...
Lilypond (www.lilypond.org) is the program I've been using to create the music score images in the background and in my gallery here, among other things. I have some long-term projects that involve it, that I mentioned in earlier posts in this blog (and in Musicstuffs.) The version I was using, and getting used to, was LilyPond 2.0.1 - very far from being up to date, but with the computer I had, the most recent one I could install. With my new machine I installed 2.6.3, but hadn't yet gotten around to successfully doing anything at all with it (except having it crash on me a few times, and seeing why :) ). I found out that I could attempt to install a much more recent version, though, so I'm trying to do so now. Music Recovery :)
a friend gave me some bronzed CDs some years back - he'd be getting replacements for them, the CDs were decaying, I knew how to make backups before they did so. (They've since decayed - this was awhile ago. Yes, there is even a Wikipedia article on what this means- CD bronzing.) The backups themselves are falling victim to entropy and what-have after four or so years, so I'm glad enough to have other discs and an iPod, and to know how to find information I lacked (track/performer details/...) at the time I got the discs. (Also, the website of one of the recording companies from which most of these CDs were bought has much of that information easily available now, a good service for their consumers- and I've bought many of their discs myself, since they record so much music "up my alley".) That may well occupy my next who-knows length of time, or part of it, but at least it could be fun- as I've said when I've done this before, there's several worse ways to spend time than listening to

Since I'm feeling enthusiastic and even though I've recommended this piece of music before, still, if you like Rachmaninoff's music (and especially his more serious vein - the Corelli variations, his first piano sonata, the Symphonic Dances, the tone poem The Isle of the Dead too) - you may want to give a listen to the music of composer Nikolai Medtner and especially his sonata for piano in E minor, headed with lines from a poem (by Tyutchev) - and given the nickname - "The Night Wind" (Medtner's work was written around 1911, and a score is available here that's public domain in Canada and the US though not in the EU.) Was listening to a performance of this, recorded by Adam Fellegi back in 1989 for Marco Polo (while exercising actually, Wednesday...- listening to a good half-hour-_straight_ of almost unbroken piano music that only gets more exciting towards the end is a great way to ignore the fact that one's getting more sore and more tired, though it's only a half-hour... any

I've been off of work since Friday morning. I'm sick and feel as if I'm dying, but that does nothing to alleviate my boredom. Being that I really don't have the energy to actually do anything, I've been listening to music today. Yo-Yo Ma soothes me. It's as if each note he brings forth to life caresses my soul and makes love to my senses. The man is brilliant. I recently put together a playlist of music from various genres to listen to while I help my sister bomb photos for contests. (if I dont help sis, she will do something horrible to me, like cook nothing but broccoli dishes for a meal, or worse, clean my room) I chose pieces that I know I like, from soundtracks to folk music, and discovered that most of the music either has similar melodies, or played with similar instruments. One song in particular, the Kiss, from last of the mohicans sounds almost like an old celt bagpipe folk song. I even have multiple tracks of the same song, just arranged differently that clearly reflects a mood. (something I should have remembered from stage and jazz band) What seems clear to me that music is more of a choice of similar styles or melodies over a specific artist. Look at your favorite songs, see if I am right.

I blame the music for today's marital troubles. In a sense, bad music has messed up the world as we know it. You can tell by the message that's in the music today. It seems that the mentality is "why buy the cow, when you can get the milk for free". This is why no one wants to get married, and why no one today ever wants to stay married. I mean I'm not married right now because I want to get married ONE TIME and ONE TIME only. I've seen first-hand what divorce can do and let me tell you, it's not pretty. Nobody gets it worse than the kids, trust me on that. I mean nobody even cares anymore, about their spouses or anyone. Whatever happened to those Ossie Davis & Ruby Dee-type relationships? There is no sense of order, nor is there any sense of structure anymore. Believe it or not, the only way to bring that back is through the power of music.

Sometimes you find that one song or one artist that really gets you right in your soul. Sometimes it's the entire album.. not one bad song.. every song has a deep meaning to you. It's so deep you're in awe every time you hear it. Amazed that someone could be so talented. So deep. So full of powerful energy that you can't stop listening to them. You keep playing it over and over and even when it's overplayed by radio standards, you still get the same feeling you had the first time it hit you. It's like a drug. As I sit here late at night without the ability to get to sleep, my tired mind tends to continue rolling through everything that has transpired throughout the day and even farther back. I have tended to notice a trend of sorts when it comes to me and women. That trend is that I tend to let myself become complacent and not keep my guard up even though perhaps I should no better all things considerred. For example, one of my close friends, who is a girl, has been having several issues revolving around her and her family. I have tried and tried repeatedly to get her to understand certain situations to no avail. And even though she says that I am one of her best friends, I can only hope. The question now is why do I allow things like this to happen? Am I just weak willed and have an abnormal need to feel/be wanted or is it just because I choose it to be so? what has happened to music in the last few years. Were are all the bands gone that actually have something to say, something of relevance? I remember back in the day you has people like Dylan and Morrison in the 60's and 70's, along with a whole loads of protest singers. Infact back then if you had an acoustic guitar you were a protest singer. Then along came the whole punk movement with rebelling against who knows what, but at least they were trying to prove a point, then in the 80's and 90's you had Morrissey and Rage Against the machine trying to prove a point through music. But today what do you have? I mean all the punk bands are just completely self obsessed, is it just a sign of the general malaise with society? Musings On John 5's Pickup Choice.
I just found out John 5 uses a Tele Hot Rails. GROSS! I guess it does sound really good with some gain on it, but come on, who plays metal pickups completely clean? Well, me and Erica both do, actually. But the Enforcer is really versatile! And also used by John 5, by the way. The Hot Rails isn't versatile at all unless you have your tone potentiometer at 1meg, and that will just RUIN your neck's tone. So do yourself a favor and never, ever, ever buy the HR for Tele. If you already did, call the Seymour Duncan custom shop and have them rewind it to a Vintage Rails. And then wire that in parallel. And there you have a Duncan Jazz in your bridge! Paired with, say, a Duncan 5-2, you have a pretty great Telecaster. Actually, now that I thought of that, I'm definitely gonna do it. Thanks, me! Wouldn't it be ironic if I got the John 5 signature Tele just for that? The answer is, "kind of." Because I also need another Enforcer, and they're a bit hard to come by these days. Love, /Andy

So…I met up with a good friend of mine, Rui last night. We checked out stuff @ Guitar Center and pretty much annoyed the heck out of the customers and staff by futzing around with various musical devices by playing them at high levels. Then it was off to get some pizza…..and Jager..and a movie. Pan’s Labyrinth. Interesting film. Lush visuals, excellent story and even though I had to go by subtitles, it still made for a a enjoyable viewing. Then it was time for some synth action. Showed Rui the new mixer (Behringer XENYX 1222FX). I like it because it has 16 tracks and Studio-grade 24-bit stereo FX processor with 100 presets including reverb, chorus, flanger, delay, pitch shifter and various multi-effects. So essentially anything I run through it can have neato sounds layered onto it. Sufficed to say we had fun dinking around on the synths and all. We’re kicking around the idea of making some tracks together… but right now it’s just in the pre-natal planning

Music is good for the soul. It can discribe what you cant put into words. It helps you to discribe what you cant find the words to discribe. its amazing what a simple song can make others understand about your feelings. Some songs can make others look at you like you have lost your mind. but if you actually listen to them and take the time to actually think about what the songs actually mean then you will realize that some songs talk about life and discribe how some people see life, and that some things they say are actually true about life. Some Love songs help you say what you cant put into your own words. Such as if you love someone but cant exactly put into words how much you love them but you hear a love song that discribes how you feel then you have your way of saying how you feel about that person. Course thats my point of view. Dunno how others would see it but theres my oppinion. Like it? Love it? Hate it? let me know.

Thursday, August 30, 2007 P2P sites Current mood: pissed off Category: Music I've been downloading quite a bit of music lately and I've noticed one thing that bothers me. How can you not know the name of the band that does the song when it should be there right in front of you? Are you that fucking dumb? Really? I've downloaded the same song three different times thinking that maybe each of the bands had done and redone the song. The song is Circle Of The Tyrants originally done by Celtic Frost. And I know for a fact that Dimmu Borgir remade it for a tribute album. I saw it in my Opeth search, and wondered......Did they remake it? Nope it was actually the original version. The biggest mistakes are found in the oldies. sometimes do you ever wonder if the way u see things...that your the only one who sees them that way? i have been feeling that way lately. i try not to make a big deal of things that are little things even tho the little things mean alot to me. the big things for the most part are there i just miss the little things. i havent ever had them....and i would really like them. i would like them from one special someone but i dont want to bug him by always sayin it..i would like to just get them.it would mean more that way. this prolly only make sense to a few people who know me really well..but i had to type it out anyways. o well when i get braver then maybe i will finish this blog and say all i am tryin to say......for now...hopefully it gets read...and understood...and things change....

So today I had a to write up some reports for I did for this recruiter I work for. Sigh, I mean, we already entered the information into the computer...how hard would it be for them to,ummmm, hit print? Apparently very. Heh Thanks powers that be for killing my day off...bastids. And of course Murphy's law kicks in...I go there on my day off and get suckered into doing work...bastids part deux. I'm home now for a bit....and listening to : You can't go - prince language edit/remix. It's a awesome remix of the old Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes tune which was also covered by Thelma Houston , as "don't leave me this way". It's a booty shakin song....so get down! Another tune I listened to is by the Ballistic Brothers - A Love Supreme. Perhaps a nod to John Coltrane? As per wikipedia they are - Specializing in a kind of jazz-influenced funky electronica music. I guess but it's damn fun to listen too. I guess both can be considered "broken beat".... again I d

ABOUTA YEAR AGO I WAS INVITED TO PLAY AT THE BLUE MOON TAVERN BY THE U OF W (GO HUSKIE BTW) AND I JUST GOT NEWS THIS PAST WEEK THAT THEY WOULD LOVE FOR ME TO COME UP THIS COMING WENSDAY AND PLAY A 15 MINUITE SET DURING THEIR OPEN MIC NIGHT. I AM REALLY PUMPED UP ABOUT THIS BECAUSE I'LL BE PLAYING KIHOU'ALU (HAWAI'IAN SLACK KEY). I HAVE 3 MELODIES OF SONGS THAT I HAVE WORKED ON FOR YEARS AND A 4TH THAT'LL BE MY ADDITION IF REQUESTED. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I HAVE WANTED TO DO FOR MANY YEARS SINCE THE PASSING OF MY DAD IN MARCH OF '99. Music Time 2: Update
Well, I went, I played, I conquered and I had fun. It was such a great night that I had a hard time going to sleep last night. Everything went well and had alot of people come up to me after my segment complimenting me. It had been roughly 6 years since I played on stage and the butterflies were just on a rampage. New place, new crowd, different guitar and a WHOLE LOTTA CAFFINE. Anyway, I hope to do this again and beable to record it. It would have been nice to re-listen to what I played and hear all of my mistakes...(ha ha ha ha ha). Have a great day and a aesome weekend all! PJ
