When you're laying in bed, waiting to fall asleep, what is it that you think about? Do you think about the day you just had, the day that will be greeting you in the morning, or how long it's been since you washed your sheets?
Are you wondering if someone really likes you or not, if you really like them or not, or if you even like yourself?
Do you count sheep, hate your job, make a mental shopping list, or wonder why you don't just do something crazy and unexpected to shake up your life?
Maybe you just lay there, hands folded across your chest, and just stare at the ceiling fan bending the light that's coming in under the door or through the window.
Maybe you listen for sounds and imagine what sounds they hear in Kenya when they lay down to sleep at night.
Do you lay and wish you hadn't eaten so much at Thanksgiving or that it wasn't so late you could call someone without waking them up?
Sometimes I know I do.
But more often than not, when I lay down, I already have some wonderful music playing. Something to sing along with in my head or aloud that I know enjoy.
I imagine the great things that are coming closer and closer to me every second and I acknowledge the great things that are already here.
At times I get sad that something may or may not have happened in the manner or timeframe that I wanted but after practice, I've learned to be thankful, always.
Before my mind enters sleep, my face is wearing a smile and I'm listening to a beautiful voice sing to me...
"Three little birds sat on my window, and they told me I don't need to worry..."
I listen and let any worry I may have collected that day melt away, because I
"...got a head full of new ideas, I got music bleeding from my ears and people who believe in me, I got miles and miles of things to see..."
and I can't wait for a new day! I smile, let the songs keep playing, and I think I might just
"...walk the side streets home, even when I'm on my own. If I let myself believe all the bad press and all the stories, I wouldn't set a foot outside."
