Park rangers indicated that the clear, oderless oily substance clean up by maintenance and preservation crew was completed Sunday. The incident occured Friday night and there was no permanent damage to the wall. The wall is made of granite... same as the counter tops (sorry if that offends to think of the wall as a counter top) Where it is polished and treated it is very durable. The long term traces come into play where the stone is engraved. It is dry and more prone to absorbing liquids and becoming discolored temporarily. The elements, Sun, Wind, Rain, Snow, Sleet, Hail.... will correct this problem and add thier own signature to the character of the wall. I went to jail back in May of this year and came out a new man. I've realized I have been selfish in my ways of thinking and it has cost me the best thing that ever happened to me. She left me right at Christmas and it was my fault. I now realize that sometimes in life we shouldn't take all the little things for granted and be grateful for all that we have in life. I am now planning on attending TRCC Community College to obtain a degree. Sometimes in life we fail to realize that God puts tests before us to find out if we are capable of learning from our mistakes and I'm believing that more and more every day. I truly believe that God is always watching us even though I'm not a holy roller by any means, I do have a wild side, it's just human nature. If you don't believe me then just ask me! I'm coming into a place in my life where it occurs to me "mid-life" isn't just a catchy word for turning 40. It's very much a reality. I'm not sure I'm over the hill, but I feel the weight of my elders dragging me forward. On one side of the hill, my parents, grandparents and their peers are passing on. My mother must go to a funeral a month. I hear the tremble in her voice when she talks. It is painful for her to let them all go. Her peers represent her youth, the experiences of love and laughter that have brought her to this twilight. On the other side are my children, full of mischief and hope, as they charge forward. My oldest is 14. I can feel her straining to peddle her life faster up the hill. It frustrates her that we continue to push her back down, because she can't see over the top, and we can.
