Veterans Day Ride!
Its 5.45 am, and time to get out of bed. By 6, I have the coffee going, and am already in the shower. check my emails real quick to see if there are any last minute changes, and then start getting ready for the cold weather. Now what coud get me up and outside so early in the morning? Well-today is Veterans Day, and we are having a ride to celebrate. So at 7.30 am, I am on my way out the door, dressed in layers. No frost, but that is only because the humidity is down. It is COLD out there. Push the bike out of the garage, and get her running. Takes a couple of minutes to get warmed up, and I want that oil thinned out just a bit before I start heading up the road. Kickstands up at 7.45 am, and I am off! Only takes me about 1 minute to figure out that the gloves I grabbed and were fine for standing around, aren't going to work for riding-just a bit thin, and ventilated -fingers are already getting tingly. Suck it up! I keep riding-I have endured worse than this, and there are MY country

I admit my age and that i've been rocking since the early 60s. I have spent most of the day adding videos to my page and have been having a blast. I worked for a number of years as security for concerts in Cincinnati where I grew up. Age hasn't slowed me down because if anything my music tastes have grown a bit harder than they were. I've added a number of videos to my main profile page (and yes one is Weird Al)I have added some classics to the 'My Tracks'Section and will continue to add more music because music is a large part of me. Not a phrase that men normally use, he went on his way looking a bit puzzled. When he was about done shopping, a man came up and said, "Your fly is open." He zipped up and finished his shopping. Sunday is Veteran's Day. On Monday, everyone gets a day off from work, banks arec losed, and most people will sleep in. I will not. I will get up at five and go for my run. Then I will call my Father around 6:30. I will say; "Thanks for serving Dad. Happy Veteran's Day." He'll say much the same back to me. I have about 20 of these calls to make, plus a few emails for those that are still active. In Seattle, there's no parade, no special recognition, as far as I know there's not even a John Wayne movie on TV this weekend. As a soldier I was shot at, cursed, spit on, written off, poisioned, relied upon, underestimated, tested, allowed to grow, and occasionally even thanked. As a veteran I've been cursed, spit on, threatened, ignored, and occasionally even thanked. I don't sleep much. I often don't get along with people. I have flashbacks and nightmares. I can remember graduating from boot camp... yea, you heard me right, I said BOOT CAMP - and feeling a sense of pride as the American flag was being raised at the beginning of the ceremony that I've never felt before. I even began to cry I was so overwhelmed with emotion! Looking out at the crowd and seeing all the smiling faces .. seeing my family there and the pride in their face at what I had accomplished.. it was awesome and well worth everything I had to endure during Air Force boot camp. Believe me, no one would have ever figured ME to be in the military .. but I did it... and actually did it well. I served during Desert Storm/Shield in the early 90's.... and was overseas the entire time. Veterans Day
Being the 5th person in my family to join the military this day is bittersweet. At jobs I am not allowed to celebrate it even though I am a vet. At jobs they say let's thank the veterans today and I get ignored. When I bring up military experience it's not valid or doesn't apply. "Dying is part of your job so why should I give you any respect on this day". When you bring your point of view on current situations you are even called unpatriotic or stupid, even though you've been to the middle east and actually served and the person arguing never did. The people dying in this war are kids 18-21. There were casualties in this war before 911 and the response to those military personnel and their families was horrid. The USS COLE was bombed and 17 lost their lives. All I'm asking is you support troops when it's not time of war. There are members of the military that spend 9-18 months away from their families when there is not a war going on. NO the military is not full of grun

Today is the day to honor the Veterans who have given their life for Americans. Tho I didn't give my life, I did serve an honorable 8 years in the US Military. I have been around the world and seen many things that many haven't seen. My ship was one of the first to respond to the USS Cole when she was bombed overseas and 17 sailors died. I did a 7 month tour in Kuwait. And of course that fateful day on 9/11/2001, the whole US military responded to the attack on the USA. I just wanted to say a special thank you to all my veteran and active duty military families that are still serving our country proudly. Veterans Of The Streets
There are a lot of veterans other than WOR even though the streets can often seem like a battle sometimes knowing who you can trust all of the safe alleys, streets and the best times to travel them. The mind never slows or shuts off with every step there is caution and uncertainty a chance the next step will be the one where someone will either befriend you or try to cause you harm. I had learned looks would not always save someone that charm only goes so far and just being polite as you pass people leaves most people thinking there is an ulterior motive behind the smile. I found that if you hold your head up and appear to be just another someone walking by you become invisible chances are no one will remember you by the end of the day. I had the looks, smarts, attitude and all that came from it was people twice and three times my age drugging me getting me drunk to have sex with me it would not have been so bad guys were doing it also that is were caution came in to play.

Some veterans are able to come home and others never make it home. I am thankful that the ones in my life made it home otherwise I never would have met them. I may have lost them earlier than I would have liked but our times together were fantastic! Two of my favorite service men ever have been gone nine and seven years respectively. Veterans Day
As Veteran's Day is upon us once more, a day set aside to celebrate the men and women of the Armed Forces. I would like to tell you about a wonderful Veteran I know and Love. My Step-Dad Mike who was always more like a father to me then my own dad. I met Mike when I was 9 years old for all intents and purposes I hated Mike. He was set to ruin my life I thought. He was after all, after my Mother!!! Through time and understanding on his part he became a very important part of my life. Mike served from 18 -25 in Vietnam. In that time he was also a POW. I remember having to wake him up with broomsticks because the nightmares were so severe for him. He used to drink to much he was never mean to us but he would cry and be devastated about the things he saw and did in Vietnam. It was kill or be killed. They were a bunch of young men sent out into a jungle they were completely unfamiliar with, no amount of training could prepare you for fighting an unseen enemy. Mike was captured in 1968

I have noticed today that alot of military have been changing thier name on here to things like "Marine Vet" or "Army Vet" or whatever branch of the service they represent. Which I want to state now I have the utmost respect for any Veteran, in whatever way they served and for whatever branch of the military they served in. (My boyfriend is currently deployed to Afghanistan and I come from a very long line of military). I find it disheartening that they change thier name or thier status to say things like bling me Im a Vet or buy me this or buy me that because Im a Vet. I think every Vet should be recognized and commended for thier service I guess to me it just makes it seem bling or point whorish to use something of such honor and prestige for that purpose.

I chose a path at age 18 that more than a few have gone. I left home and friends behind for four years to find myself and be a part of a bigger picture. I was a soldier. I served overseas and spent many days and nights in the cold mud. I was sent in harm's way and sweated in the stifling heat for four months. I never saw direct combat or lost a close friend to enemy fire but I still served. And I ...served proud. I made new brothers and sisters during my enlistment those whom I still hold in high regard and am proud to say I walked in the ranks with. We were soldiers and they are my family still to this day. My time in service pales in comparison to the ones who serve today. My sacrifices are small compared to what is endured now. I salute the soldiers that are serving now, keeping my freedom and my boys' future way of living safe. I hope one day my children can say "there was my dad. He was a soldier. He served proud."

This paper basically lumped in people who are either pro second amendment, anti abortion, anti illegal immigration, or pro smaller government (or more than one or all of the above) with white supremacists and domestic terrorists. As maddening as I found that paper there was one aspect to the paper that I missed this morning and to me it is much more egregious. Viet Nam 1966 Richard, (my husband), never really talked a lot about his time in Viet Nam other than he had been shot by a sniper. However, he had a rather grainy, 8 x 10 black and white photo he had taken at a USO show of Ann Margret with Bob Hope in the background that was one of his treasures. A few years ago, Ann Margret was doing a book signing at a local bookstore. Richard wanted to see if he could get her to sign the treasured photo so he arrived at the bookstore at 12 o'clock for the 7:30 signing. When I got there after work, the line went all the way a round the bookstore, circled the parking lot and disappeared behind a parking garage. Before her appearance, bookstore employees announced that she would sign only her book and no memorabilia would be permitted. I do not understand everyones problem with the need to constantly buy the new gadget... when it comes to recording/watching a movie, i am perfectly happy with the VHS.. most people started an expensive collection which is now worthless... at least offer people a considerably lower rate to trade in tapes for dvds of the same movie/content.... but so many suckers out there jump on the it's gotta be "new" and it must be "better" well, the VHS vs DVD came to my mind when i go to the local blockbuster to rent a flick... they do not offer VHS anymore at all.. they also do not offer full screen.. only wide screen... we're like rats in a cage and go for whatever they dangle in front of us... the VHS had less problems when playing... i could pop it in watch my movie and have it back between 5-7 days... but this DVD garbage.. i can honestly say i had to exchange a DVD once more than ten times, because each DVD was so scratched it wouldn't read the disc or just skip so much to a point

Joe Biden likes to refer to himself as "Joe Biden", and he likes to call Barak Obama simply Barak. I have no idea what that means. I think it's some ego thing. I like Sarah Palin's confidence and she does seem like "one of us". Joe Biden says he hangs out alot at Home Depot. He must be busy looking for carpet or possibly blinds for the White House, thereby assuring the nebulous "CHANGE" so fervently promised. And back to watching I go...
