A Soldiers Wife! She stands in line at the post office waiting to send a package to her husband, a U.S. Army soldier serving in Iraq. Envelopes, pens, paper, stamps, sunscreen, eye-drops, gum, batteries, powdered Gatorade, baby wipes and Twizzlers. He said he needed the sunscreen and baby wipes. She threw in the Twizzlers. There's a common bond at the post office in this military town. People aren't just sending letters and packages; they are sending smiles, hope, love and just a touch of home. People look around at the others, sharing their concern, fear and pride. They take comfort knowing they are not alone. Passing through the gate leaving the Army post, she enters another world. A world filled with pawnshops, surplus stores, barbershops, fast food galore and, of course, "Loans, Loans, Loans." This is a life that includes grocery shopping at a place called the Commissary. A life that has her venturing to the Post Exchange, referred to as the PX, instead of heading to Wal-Mart.

In my time working on towboats I have heard the arguments between both shift boats and trip boats about how one job is tougher than the other. Six Flags
Ok, this weekend was fun, but I'm wore out! Saturday, my boyfriend, brother and sister-in-law, traveled a little over 2 hours to go to Arlington, TX to Six Flags over Texas...spent all day there, stayed the night in a hotel, then, got up Sunday morning and went to Hurricane Harbor (used to be Wet-N-Wild water park). The Great And Secret Show!
I remember being a kid and listening to the symphony in Severence Hall. Thinking that those musicians must live a great life and have amazing attention span when certain sections were not needed in a work. When I was older and I sang behind the orchestra with a choir, I saw that the brass section, when not playing had their "field and stream" or whatever magazine handy to bide their time. You could have blown me over with a feather. Working as a chorus member in an opera is exhilerating and zany. If someone ever told me that the hottest thing to do in a green room was to play euchre and connect four. I would have laughed you off as a buffoon. Alas, that it what we did for all of the performances. I love it to distraction! Nothing is as funny as a room of confident singers, nor as frustrating. Hopefully, I will have many years of this fun.
