Heat the oil in a wok or skillet and add the chili. Add the chicken and peanuts, and stir-fry until the chicken is cooked. Add the remaining ingredients, except the sesame oil and bring to a boil. Held each year from December 26 until January 2, Kwanzaa is increasingly seen as an appropriate multicultural alternative to Christmas, a holiday considered too religious and "Eurocentric" for public schools. But there is one not-so-insignificant problem associated with Kwanzaa. While many teachers believe it to be an ancient African harvest festival, it was actually born, not in pre-colonial West Africa, but in 1960s southern California. It is, in fact, the brainchild of African-American radical activist, academic and convicted felon Ron Karenga. In 1969, two rival radical groups battled for control of the UCLA black studies program: the Black Panthers and the lesser-known US, or United Slaves, led by Karenga. Both groups sauntered around campus carrying loaded guns. Perhaps inevitably, violence erupted. As David Horowitz recalls in Radical Son, Black Panther John Higgins was "murdered--along with Al 'Bunchy' Carter--on the UCLA campus by members of Ron Karenga's organization."

Ingredients: * 3/4 cup chicken broth * 2 Tablespoons soy sauce * 1 Tablespoon fresh lemon juice * 2 teaspoons brown sugar * 1 teaspoon lemon peel * 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar * 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes * 1-1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes * 2 Tablespoons cornstarch * 2 Tablespoons peanut oil * 1 red bell pepper, cubed * 6 green onions, cut into two-inch pieces * 2 Tablespoons minced garlic * 2 Tablespoons minced fresh ginger * 3 kiwi, peeled, halved, cut into 1/4 inch pieces * 2 cups cooked rice Garnish: Additional green onion, sliced Method In a medium bowl stir together the first seven ingredients until blended. Today would have been Kyle's 21st birthday. He would still be in Iraq unfortunatly but celebrating none the less. It's been 3 months and 8 days since he was killed and the pain has not subsided in the least bit. Sometimes it seems it hurts more now, realizing he wont be coming home, then it did in the days after his death. I lost my best friend, the one who was always there to catch me when I fell, my something stable in an unstable world; I lost my rock. But today is not a day to mourn his death but rather a day to celebrate his life. We will gather at the cemetary and drink Bud Light, green jello shots and crown royal and coke in his memory, and then stumble home through the woods like we used to do so many years ago. I love you and miss you my friend. Happy Birthday Kyle.

Labeling the Homeless … We are not all the same. Not all homeless people are "drunks, or addicts". I am currently homeless and I do not drink or do drugs. There are a variety of reasons for being homeless and not all of them have to do with drinking or drugs. Yes some may be where they are due to personal addictions but there are more out there due to mental illness. Major changes in their lives they had no control over like the loss of their jobs, divorce or unexpected loss of a loved one they were very close to. Depression is a very big illness and not everyone can afford the therapy or medicine to help. I applaud Nashville for all it has done to help the homeless. Mostly for medical help and some of the meds needed. But the one thing I’m not sure of is, is there a way (for some of us that need the help) to get around out there. Being that I wanted to leave something special for my friends on Christmas, I will once again go back in time this time to 2005. Labor Day Weekend
Living in MD where we do have all 4 seasons, Labor Day is when the beaches close. Not that you cant still go out there, and get in the water, hell this time of year, the water is warmer then the air. However the rides shut down on the boardwalk, some of the stores close, another summer gone! (need to get to Florida) Beach volleyball comes to an end, though there is one more beach tournament in the middle of Sept. Before you know it, Halloween will be here, followed by Thanksgiving and Christmas. This summer was another great one. Played alot of beach/grass volleyball tournaments, Clint and I did well this year! Went to Cooperstown to see Cal Ripken go into the Hall of Fame which was a great 4 day weekend. The first two days of school went well for the kids. I sorta roamed around in shock, and slept alot. Funny how even a good schedule change can really mess you up. It just doesn't feel as though the kids should be walking the school halls just yet. Well, for us, school has started and why they don't wait until after Labor Day like they did when I was a kid is beyond me. My kids started on the 18th and I started classes on the 25th. So far, so good. This weekend being Labor Day, I've made plans to take the kids to Houston to see family. So we'll be gone right after school on Friday. My sisters are both coming in and I know my youngest brother will be there...not sure about Michael, my other brother. It's hard to count on him. If he shows, he shows. Most the time we never know. Labor Is Starting!!!!!
Just got back from my doc appointment. I started off at 5am with massive contractions to the point I was curled up in a ball sobbing they hurt so badly. I'm 36 weeks now so it's fine if he is born now. Per the ultrasound this morning he's weighing 6 lbs 1 oz so he's right on target where he should be. My sugar test she ran last week was fine so it's not looking like he will weigh 10 pounds when he's born. I'm now dilating more I'm 2 1/2 centimeters today so doc doesn't think I'll make it through the night. I asked her if I need to stay on bed rest and she said no!!!! She said that bed rest was just to prevent pre term labor but now I'm at a point where they don't care if I go into labor or not. She it was fine for me to do all the "nesting", cleaning etc I want to do from this point on. Basically, she giving me permission to do whatever I want to get labor going fully!!!! Labor Day - Disaster
I am stressed beyond belief... Dan and I got the kids together today and thought we would take them to the park... which went fine.. but then we decided to step it up a notch and take them to Friendly's for lunch and then to the movies to see UP. Lunch was a wreck... our waitress had clearly fell and bumped her head when we were ordering and asking her things case she seemed to have it altogether and when the meal came it was wrong. My three year old Gavin was well passed his nap time and starting to fall apart..when we left he had a meltdown cause he doesn't like the fact that we have to ride in separate vehicles but neither Dan or I have a vehicle that will legally seat all of the children and us. We were late to the theater... when we got there we rushed inside and fumbled to find seats all where we could all sit together in the now pitch black theater. Last night around 11pm or so I recieved a text message from my baby sister letting me know my Uncle had been involved in a motorcycle accident and was in the hospital. The doctors called the family in due to his critical condition. He has head trauma, bleeding on the brain, a collapsed left lung, several broken ribs, along with several cuts and bruises. They have him on a ventilator and are giving him propofol to keep him sedated. I went back to see him and was shocked at the way he looked. Both his eyes are black and blue, very swollen and almost popped out of his head. There are tons of tubes and IVs everywhere. I really thought I would be okay since I am a nurse but it's quite different seeing a member of YOUR family lying in a bed and hooked up to tons of machines. When I was 13, I had a major seizure, and was sent to a treatment facility in Moscow that researched seizures. They said it would take a coupla days, but... They found that I had a lot of activity goin on in my brain, and decided to leave me in a hospital...for a month. So I stayed. There were kids of all ages,both boys and girls,one meal a day, and we were not allowed to go outside...at all. The walls were made out of glass, so they could monitor us. In the room next to us was a 3 year old girl in a coma. At night, I had hard times sleeping cause of the lights on the machine. I am not sure what kinda place it was, but I have no idea why I had to stay there for treatment from seizures... Every day the nurse would bring us some pills, and make sure that we eat them. I tried hiding them in my mouth, but she pried it open with her hands, took the pill out, and dropped it in water, watchin me drink it. Every morning she would wake us up at 5am, and measure our temperatures.
