I am making this blog because it is something i feel strongly about. I am an education major and while i may not agree with some of the things that the states and the nation have ruled for the school system i will defend it and teachers.
To all the parents that read this.
If your child's teacher says DO NOT BRING CUPCAKES OR ANYTHING ELSE FOR THE CHILD'S BIRTHDAY.. then don't.. don't argue about it or anything there are reasons..
1) food allergies. some students can't have sugar.. some can't have eggs.. others can't have chocolate... some people can't have dye.. Its a safety issue.. how would you like it if your child was in a classroom and ate or drank something s/he was allergic to?
2) time constraints.. this is a biggy.. yes it might only take 30 minutes to throw a little party for their bday.. but guess what... most subjects are taught in 45 minutes... multiply that by 30 children (which is around what most classes have now...) that is a lot of time taken out of your child's and other children's education..
Most schools (at least in my area) do not even have a real recess anymore.. they do it during lunch... lunch is around 30 minutes... 30 minutes to get 30 children to a cafeteria, get all their food, let them ALL eat.. and then if there is time left.. they get to go outside..
is that the teachers fault? are they lazy? no.. its the school board.. but the teachers get the blame.. and are called lazy because they can't do the things that the parents remember from when they were in school
Parents in classrooms
This is great in theory.. i would love to have parents in my class all the time.. except.. there are more and more students in classes... and the rooms sizes aren't changing... if parents are in the room.. it makes it harder to get the students to the areas they need to be at.. like computer areas or to the bookshelves... or even the place to turn in papers... Scheduling a day with the teacher is great.. but don't just show up... there could be 5 other parents that do the same thing and that means there are 6 adults taking space that is very scarce in most classes...
Vacation time
Someone said earlier in a mumm something about taking vacation time away from children if the time constraints are so difficult... Ok... sure.. Lets NOT let them have Christmas vacation... how about not letting the teachers have in-service days.. in-service days are used to get the teachers updated on new strategies and laws that are created to help YOUR child...
if anyone has anything else they want me to explain or whatever.. just leave it in a comment...
