I just read a blog from a friend who had some very good points in it, and I just wanted to throw my measly 2 cents in on the subject. The subject was basically about racism, and me being a frequent victim of racist or bigoted rhetoric, I feel I have a little insight on the subject.
Now dealing with any ism out there, it's important to realize that most of the ideology behind isms is mostly ignorant or stereotypical bullshit. And yes, there was a day when I reacted wildly and angrily at any hint or sign of racism or prejudice aimed at me. But nowadays, I realize two things. One, racism is prejudice upon race multiplied by power. In other words, if the prejudiced person throwing the insults and threats doesn't have any power to make the threats real, nor have the power to stop you in anything you do, they're not a racist. They're just a prejudiced prick, and don't deserve the time or effort to be addressed about it.
Two, the worst thing you can do to ignorant individuals spewing nonsense and garbage, is give them an audience or spotlight. Honestly, most people who do this need an audience or a certain response. It gives them satisfaction to go off the deep end because of something they said. If it has no merit and there is no reason to try and convince them, ignore them. Ignorance should be ignored. I will not put up or validate someone else's insecurities.
But the big point about what goes on here on the LC (or Cherry Tap, I'm not used to all the new changes lol) is that there is a time and a place for everything. And in my humble opinion, Cherry Tap isn't the place. It is what you make it. And mostly, it's a social networking website. So if you have ignorant pricks sending racial or inappropriate comments your way, ignore em. There are WAY WAY too many good people on here that you can spend your time on, than to waste time on people crying for attention.
But hey, this is just my opinion.......my word ain't law......
