Subtext of Love

The language in which
We are all fluent
Translates actions to speech
And back again
The lift of
A wickedly arched brow
At just the right moment
Gives up secrets better left buried
Tells you that I know
What you wish I did not
An insolent tone
Belies innocent words
Waking to a note on your pillow
That still breathes your scent
Says more than the ink
Etched into the paper
You could have waited
Until I awakened
To say these written words
That you never fail to say
But the gesture
Leaves me breathless
It says everything
That words do not
Spaces between words
Speak louder here
Invisible text between visible lines
Embodies what we are to each other
I silently mirror
That I feel the same
With every stir
Of your favorite dish
The cold towels
For your headaches
The hot towels
For your backaches
The gleam in my eye
When you laugh
I find joy
In your bliss
All these things
Hang muted in air
Like puppets on strings
Awaiting permission to dance
What I feel for you
Overwhelming in its girth
Too big to be bound
By a cage of consonants and vowels
