We , and by we I mean my wife, have decided to remodel our bathroom. It all started with a leaky toilet seal, and I made the casual comment that it would look nicer with tile. Which my wife calculated that since I've been working overtime like crazy, we could take my extra money and redo the bathroom.
So countless(13) visites to places that carry tile, we finally decided on a color for the floor, and for the wall. The woman we bought the house from did everything on the cheap, so removing carpeting and wall covering was actually quite easy. So after a day of prep, we were ready to tile.
I'm not the handiest guy, and I've never laid tile before, but we have a friend who has, so she agreed to come help. When she finally got her on friday, my wife points out a weak spot in the floor that I hadn't noticed, but she has since monday. So at 7pm on a Friday night, I'm out buying materials for a sub floor. A horrible start, and half a day behind already. We work on that till 2am, then go to bed. I give up my spot in the bed, and agree to sleep on the couch. So bed at 3am, after showers and whatnot. At 7am, our birds are up, and squawking, and ready to start their day. When they're in a mood, nobody sleeps, and they were in a mood. So I got up, made coffee, and Heather woke up, because she's not used to our birds, and my wife was still sound asleep. We decided to go to breakfast, and off we went, while my wife slept.
After breakfast, I finished the subfloor while Shawnna and Heather went and got a tool from my boss'. Then the tiling began at around noon.
We finished around 7, with Heather pushing the limits of the mortar. She then went home to see her hubby, after a dip in my boss' pool. We went to dinner, then home to bed, exhausted.
The next day, we were having to grout. Remember pushing the limits of the mortar..once again, we were set back, because we had to reset some of the tile. 6 of them to be exact. But the grouting didn't take as long as Heather told us, and went quite well, and now the floor is done..other than one tile I have to reset again, because of course it decides to wait until we have it all grouted for two days, to decide to come loose. All in the general vicinity of the others. We checked them all, it was fine, and now loose...bastard!
This week were putting on the wall tile. I'm doing that all by myself, and its been pouring the last two days, so I can't set up the wetsaw on the patio, which sucks. Hopefully it'll stop raining by tonite, and I can bust out some tile. I'll keep you posted.
