So I've always liked anatomy, it's a really interesting subject. Taking it in college is like a dream, I love the class and I love my classmates. I thought the lab would be fascinating. Except for today... We've finished skinning the 3 cadavers that we're going to be using for the next 8 or so weeks. Today we were looking at leg muscles of one of our oldest cadavers. She has a horrible vascular system, meaning her veins and arteries are shot, so the embalming solution didn't preserve her lower half very well. Her leg muscles smelled and looked like raw rotten meat. It was absolutely disgusting. SO while I'm working on separating the disgustingly rotting sections of muscle, my lab group is working on exposing the femoral artery and vein. So last night was the best Anatomy lab yet! We got to cut the heart out of our cadavers and it was amazing. Do you know what it's like to hold a human heart in your hands? We cut it into a cross section to look at the atriums and ventricles. It was the most amazing situation that has ever happened to me. We learned how much work is involved with heart transplants and how quickly the whole situation has to occur. Next is the brain and I can't wait to hold it in my hands :)

Anathem By Neal Stephenson - My Review
Well, I finally finished Anathem last Friday. It's a lengthy novel at nearly 1000 pages, filled with an entire history of another world. Although the characters and situations are interesting, I must confess it didn't grab me nearly the way that Cryptonomicon or Snow Crash did. I wanted to like the monastery like setting and the convents and such, but it just didn't go anywhere. It reminded me of the type of description Tolkien used in Lord of the Rings. Not the great stuff, just all the detail along the way. The problem was that the destination didn't have the payoff and the events along the way just didn't build up with tension as they did in Crytonomicon. Stephenson is a great author and the book is intelligent and deep, and well written, it's just not that compelling from a story standpoint. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired, and it's not of being in the military, it's of trying to find love while in the military. Everyone is always so cautious about getting into a relationship with someone who is set to deploy, because not only is it heartbreaking to watch someone leave that you love, it's devestating to know that they might not come back. My Dad has always been there for me, through thick and thin, but I see how the military has affected his relationships in the past. So today I was informed that on Tuesday he will have a new girlfriend so our whatever you want to call it will be ending. So now I have to deal with him basically raping me (not in the good way) until tuesday and whenever he is around me. So I can be his dirty little secret. Work last night was hell. People were sent home early, the store was left a mess, Mealley was mad at Eva and it was busy. It finally died off after 4am. The store was unusually busy after 3am. For everyone who has wondered how I was doing since my last blog, I am doing better now. I had a LONG talk with some friends that I have (and some that are especially like my family) about everything I was feeling and it finally made sense. I was doing better because I had the knowledge of what the chances were that I could have been pregnant, and what the chances are that IF I had found out I had been pregnant and then it, I would be so devastated. I am not saying I'm not devastated this time but you know what I am saying. With my friends listening to me cry, and all of the comfort knowing that I still had a chance. This past week on the "rollercoaster of emotions" has been something I never wanted to have to deal with like that, but I had friends that supported me and loved me enough to care. That's what made Mother's Day special for me even if I am not a mother yet myself.

And How Was Your Day?
My day was filled with laughter, tears, fun and food. My family and friends surrounded my daughter and I as we celebrated her graduation from High School. People poured in and out of my home like breaths of fresh air, my daughter bouncing into the kitchen to announce yet another "hey mom, look who came by to say hello!" I would turn and sqeal at the giggling smile of another long time friend or long lost classmate of hers that had stopped along the party trail to bid farewell and good luck to her. Its been a long but lovely day. I am glad in a way, that its over. I am so proud of her and happy for her. She has worked long and hard for this day and deserves much praise. I am glad its over because new days are dawning for both us, many changes are still to come, for sure. Also, I am saddened by its coming. I cant say that there will be no more cramming sessions with pig-tailed girls dawning t-shirts and sleep pants to study the ins & outs of mid-evil history quizzes, but surely th
