Written while on vacation and without internet.

I started reading Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold today. It's a book I'd always intended to read, but the subject matter was so very sad that I feared my empathy would overwhelm my appreciation for the writing. I am quickly immersed, though, and find that despite the sad subject matter, it is an engrossing, beautifully written tale.
The weather is half-heartedly nice, muggy but not too hot, with near-constant threats of rain, it seems. Still, the day moves as most of our vacation days do. The adults read or listen to music and keep a constant vigilant eye on the two boys. The baby is passed from person to person. Nolan and Cynthia stop by again, and we get to view the photos from their honeymoon to Japan in May. (Mental note: geez, do something about the photos you've taken in the last couple years!)
After dinner, we follow Nolan over to his mother's to see their new house. It is huge and sprawling, but does finally give them one-level living -- something they'd longed for while living in a wonderful, but upright and narrow, Victorian the last 25 years.
While there, I get a little internet fix. Not enough -- not much at all. But at least a quick login to see if I've been missed. I feel much better.
Perhaps I am a sad case. But the internet has been part of my life for nearly half of the time I've been alive, and it's tough to adjust. I really miss it only at these times, when it's dark, and everyone's asleep, and I'm alone and wondering about things I'd normally be able to query on the internet.
Time to go finish Lovely Bones.
