Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut & still think they are sexy.
I got this quote in a "Men Strike Back" joke today, but as I sat there and stared at it, I started to think less about it as an amusing joke, and more and more about the truth of it. The sad truth.
In the end, men who do not meet the societal beauty standards often think they're hot stuff while women who are perfectly attractive do not.
I saw this over and over again on dating sites where people had to "grade" their appearance (like, what the hell?). Perfectly ordinary men almost always graded themselves as "hot," while very attractive women were "average."
We all know women tend to be more insecure about appearance than men are. Obviously, there's a lot more focus on female appearance in our society, and because men are generally so much more visual and focused on looks, there's more pressure on women to always be visually appealing. (Side note: Gay men? Your lot sucks the worst. Seriously. I feel for you.)
In addition, women may focus less on guys' looks, but they are attracted to confidence. So the average guy wants to act confident. Thus "I'm hot" on the "grade your looks" question.
But, for the record, this all sucks. I think we've all been able to tell from a site like CT that just about everyone is someone's type. I'm nowhere near the modern standard of beauty, but lots of people still think I'm attractive. And attractiveness and sexiness aren't all about looks anyway -- they're about attitude.
So, ladies, stop fretting about your appearance and go ahead and reclaim your sexiness. You're hot! Glory in it! 'cuz, in the end, men will want you if you do.
