Deck of Cards
What do you see when you play with a deck of cards? Some people see the opportunity to make some money...or lose some money in a casino or a poker table. Some see it as a symbol of the things they hold dear in their lives.
The ace or the card with one spot shows there is but one God.
The card with two spots reminds us the Bible is divided into two parts, the Old and New Testaments.
The three is symbolic of the three persons in the Trinity.
The four tells us the New Testament was written by the four evangelists.
The five - that there were five foolish and five wise virgins.
The six reminds us God created the world in six days.
And with the seven - that God rested on the seventh day.
The card with the eight spots reminds us of the eight beatitudes.
The nine tells of the nine lepers who failed to return to the Savior to give thanks.
The ten is for the Ten Commandments.
The Jack is the devil who seeks to destroy souls.
The Queen is Mary – mother of God.
The King represents the Kingdom of Heaven.
The 52 cards in the deck tell us there are 52 Sundays in the year.
There are 13 cards to a suit, relating to the 13 lunar cycles in the year.
There are 12 face cards, reminding us of the 12 calendar months to each year.
The four suits – hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs signify the four seasons.
