Welcome to Lounges

So, you're new to lounges? That's not a problem. Here are some helpful tips for entering a lounge for the first time.

#1 - Don't be afraid to say HI to people when you enter a lounge.

It makes you seem aloof if you ignore the fact that typically 4 or 5 people may say hi to you.  If you don't know anyone, but recognize a name from an ability used on you, or a Happy Hour or from scrolling across the top of your screen, say HI to them.  Typically, the name of the on air DJ will have been in the lounge banner. At least say hi to the DJ.

#2 - Don't be afraid to ask about the general format of the lounge.

Some lounges play rock, some country, some dance and some are just comedy clips.  It's just like radio stations.  If you don't like the particular format, that might now me the best lounge for you.  However, be willing to be open minded.  You'll be surprised how many different types of music you know.

#3 - Make sure you click the tab for lounge rules.

Some lounges are very particular about some of their rules.  There may be a rule about no drinking on cam or not link dropping or no parking (leaving your computer on the lounge for the tunes while you do something else, like sleep). If you are going to park, ask someone. Most people just say OK.

#4 - CAMS

The policy for what is allowable on cam changes from lounge to lounge.

I could go on for hours about the cams.  A general rule of politeness is that you should mute your microphone if you are on cam and there is a live DJ.

I personally think it's rude for me to eat on cam and I won't do it. A snack like a candy bar or a reeces peanut butter cup is one thing, but eating a full meal on cam can seem ok to some people and disgusting to others.  Use your judgement.

While it is appropriate to pay compliments to the people on cam, it is NOT appropriate for someone to walk in and be rude to the cammers.  "Nite Tits" is not the best way to make new friends.

The general rule on the cams is also that you should be a lounge member before turning your cam on.

#5 - REQUESTS

Most DJs take requests. Try to keep it in genre.  For the most part, a DJ will probably "break" his set with your song, but if the lounge is a heavy metal lounge, requesting Taylor Swift is probably not the best thing to do.

Most DJs also don't like speed requests. Especially if the lounge is busy.  Try to remember, the DJs do this for fun, not as a job.  Don't make YOUR hobby make THEIR hobby miserable.

#6 - JOINING

If you like the lounge, join it.  Come back more often. You'll most likely make a bunch of good friends. I know I have.
