He stand on the porch wonder where his life has went.
he been through the Navy and all the wars
but to him he seem very young ready to fight another war.
he knows what he got to do
nobody tells him
he knows it right from the heart
As the wind blows
he remember the cold and dark nights
on the batter fields
as shoots rang out and
soldier fall
he wish he could be one
but
he, knows what he got to do
nobody tells him
he knows it right from the heart
The flag goes by
he tries to help
but they, say he to old
so he, sneaks in on the
battle field.
he see young boys
falling to the ground.
then he, screams saying
"don't take their lives
take mine"
then he, runs to his grandson
but he, never makes it
but he, knows what he got to do
nobody tells him
he knows it right from the heart
While in his grandson arms
he can feel the blood on his hand
he tells his grandson
that his age has caught up
with him and it,
was time to go.
but before he went
he told his grandson
Do what you got to do
don't let nobody tell you
what to do
do it right from your heart.
As he walking through the gates of heaven
Jesus took his hand and
took him to where he could see his
grandson writing his name on the wall
It said
"Grandpa, I miss you already
you took your life for mine
and in my book you are hero"
you did what you wanted to do
nobody had to tell you
it came right from your heart
because you did what you had to do
As he watch his grandson walk away
tears ran down his face.
he knew that he taught his grandson
to do what came from the heart
and that, one day
he would be telling his grandson
the same thing
do what comes right
from the heart.
