I sincerely doubt that Anyone in the USA actually cares about sexual 'improprieties' on some moral ground or even pseudo moral ground but i am absolutely certain beyond any reasonable doubt that people in the USA act in accordance with what Vattel attributed to people under a Monarchy - they accede to what appears to be the prevailing ethos and what we have now - in that regard - are the vestiges of 34 years of 'Conservatism'. Consequently at least half of the people merely think - yes, that's the right and proper thing or no that's terribly wrong and merely go along with it to preserve what ever pleasantry they have to maintain
But the biggest part of it is the exploitation of that conformity for the sole purpose of punishing some person that a powerful per$on doesn't like.
But the more Liberal society becomes towards nudity, same sex marriage, &c the more melodramatic the sexually related allegations have to be, notably rape and pedophilia. I thought it was interesting but also salient that Van Zant emphasized that in the 'Conservatives' malicious ad hominem allegations against Gay people and thus Milk as a political candidate, that Homosexuals are allegedly pedophiles
I'm wondering if in my lifetime I'll see polyamorous marriages, which in my view would render most of these specious allegations obsolete because in most cases - there is always the poor hapless wife - with the man having to say O I am so sorry my poor wife sob sob.
Lowering the age of consent to 13 would solve many of the other problems too. This is perhaps one unique example of States Rights statutory law - viz., the perpetrator is punished and unlike recovery of stolen goods, repair of damages, paying the hospital bills whatever, the victim receives nothing but the anguish from others - O your life is now ruined forever. That will surely be the last to go from America and all of it to punish someone - e.g., Roman Polanski made a film about Satanism, he must be punished.
