Hearts, are easy to draw on paper
and easy to color in red
if you stay in the lines
they will turn out just fine
A teacher of mine once said
But hearts made of clay,
I too heard her say
are harder to make it is true
are harder to shape,
are likely to break
and if handled carelessly, do
The heart that I made
I molded from clay
but I haven’t tended it well.
Its been broken at times
and for each mending line
I have a sad story to tell
For I loved a heart made of paper
All colored but wonderfully thin
And while she held mine
that I made from the clay
she dropped it again and again
But hearts made of paper,
if you let them go
how lightly they float to the floor
While my heart of clay
in pieces would lay
and smaller the more and the more
For hearts made of paper
are easy to make
and easy to color in red
With blue in her eyes
while breathing a sigh
a teacher of mine once said
