A friend of mine has mentioned that he has recently learned that he has diabetes. He now has his head screwed on right after the after shock of the initial impact of the news; however, I did remind him that, just because he has diabetes, it isn't the end of the world. Both of my grandparents had diabetes and lived well into their late 80's, which if you are in your 40's now, it means that you have roughly another 40 years to go, at least!!
Of course, longevity does mean being more attentive to a healthy lifestyle. Since we ARE human, this doesn't mean that one can't substitute that favorite piece of cake or pie for that sugar free jello in the refrigerator. There is no reason to completely derprive ourselves. My grandmothers were wise enough for that! :D
When chatting with my friend, I did mention that I had another friend that has had a long battle with diabetes himself. (Actually, come to think of it, most of my friends that do have diabetes are generally male. Interesting... wondering what the statistics are these days.) At any rate, while he is constantly drinking lots of water and tea (gallons of it each day), he has made some dietary changes that seems to have helped.
I have seen my friend go to websites on occasion to find delicious diabetic recipes that he substitutes when cooking for himself and his 3 growing boys. His boys have had no idea that they are recipes designed for the diabetic!!
In researching the website, I have found a few -- actually, I think that there are many, many more available these days. Not sure that, even my friend knows that all of these exist!!! LOL...

LOL... The list could go on for-ever, I suppose. There are soooooo very many web sites that are paying attention to health, healthy dining, and healthy living!! :D
If you find more, please list them here to share with all that may be directly or indiretly (ie through family members or friends) affected by someone with diabetes. It is certainly encouraging to see how diverse of a range of foods that one truly has -- even if they discover that they are truly diabetic.
While I do not have diabetes, I am cognizant of the fact and will certainly make sure that I pay attention to the dietary concerns -- even though I may not be 100% attentive to that; after I am human, just like everyone else!! :D
