I finished reading a rather heavy tome a while back.....THE ORIGINS AND HISTORY OF CONSCIOUSNESS by Erich Neumann (originally published as URSPRUNGSGESCHICHTE DES BEWUSSTEINS 1949). I call it heavy because it is a translation from German & those always require a type of concentration that others don't seem to. I don't know whether it is the German BRAIN LANGUAGE or the TRANSLATOR'S brain that is so terse, but if you are not paying CONSTANT attention to EVERYTHING that is being said, you will miss crucial info & references to earlier points. ANYWAY....what I found most astounding was the idea that consciousness is a ladder. He never used the term ladder of course, but I kept seeing what he was saying as a ladder (Asperger's...requires an analogy to fully understand). When you are living everyday and just trying to get shit done you don't really see the progression of your OWN consciousness, but as time passes you see the progression of others...therefore giving you a small reflective window into your own. I use the word LADDER not to condescend but as the best metaphor I can think of. Just because you climb a ladder doesn't mean you are going someplace necessarily...the idea of HIGHER is a very Patriarchal idea that is prevalent in our current culture of consciousness & for the past 2000 years AT LEAST....so HIGHER is not what I mean. I mean a careful rung by rung progression, that if you look down there is a risk of paralysis. I see this paralysis more & more in the outside world....an unwillingness to let go of the past corrupted rituals...the "self sacrifice" that is so lauded yet rarely adhered to in action....the sheer hypocrasy & intellectual laziness. I wish everyone could see the progression of HUMANITY as a ladder instead of a wading pool....but then again if EVERYONE did, who would build the fences & feed the pigs???????
LOLOLOLOLOL...omg I am such a bitch
