You sill see that Im not all about the bitching and the complaining, lol. This will be a small taste of me NOT being a bitch. Actually, as some of you know, Im really not a bitch at all, Im a sweetheart...I just happen to have strong opinions and a really big mouth that Im not afraid to use. Anyway, I digress. Yesterday was a record-breaking day for me. At my age, record-setting that DOESNT involve new wrinkles, gray hairs or creaky bones is kinda a good thing. This one is, Im thinking. In a galaxy far, far away...oh, wait, no, thats not right. In a land far away, in a time long ago, yeah, thats better, there lived a teenager who loved to lift weights. One of her goals was to compete. She never saw that dream, though she was well on her way, come to fruition due to a back injury incurred while working out. After that came the marriage, the kids (yes, in that order), junk food and life landed...firmly on her thighs and stomach. Well, three kids and 20 years later, that teen had grown up but her days of winning lifting competitions were but the vaguest of memories (like most other things, at that age). Yes, she really HAD won trophies, btw. Ok, so I digressed again. Bottom line is that, last year, I joined a gym and decided to get my ass back in shape...literally. At my prime, which was age 17, the most weight I lifted was 360 with my legs and 105 in a bench press. Well, I just BLEW that record out of the water, yesterday, at the ripe old age of 38 (women years ARE like dog year, dontcha know). In front of 6 witnesses and two spotters, just in case I got squished, I did a whopping 3 sets of 12 reps at FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS in a plate-loaded squat press (the one you sit in, almost laying down, and push the huge tray up above you with your legs). I am rather proud of that accomplishment. Of course, my ankles hurt this morning and I needed crutches to walk over here to blog this but thats not the point. I did it and I have witnesses (not just family) to prove it. Woo hoo, its cool to be me! (Oh, btw, I can also decline press more than my body weight for the arms and am almost up to my body weight in straight bench press...and no, as you can see, I dont look like I have muscles at all so Im not one of "THOSE" types...the he/she-looking women that look like part of the German female Olympics and scare men, lol)
