Written and dedicated to my daughter, Angela Hope Lear
I heard you cry one night
But when I looked at my arms
But when I looked in your bed
You were gone
How am I to survive
Without you
If not having you there
Feels like a knife
To my heart
How am I to survive
With you
If as a father
I may only
Fail
Your image
Plagues my thoughts
How could I have created you
When my heart holds
So much darkness
So much pain
How am I to be a father
If mine was never there
To show me how
If mine was the cause
Of all my pain
I heard you cry one night
And when I found you gone
My wrists were slit
How can I ever hope to care for you
If I cannot even care
For myself
