I just ran across an old pair of boots I've had for maybe 15 years. I never really liked them but they were steel toed boots that I got for free at work and I brought them home in case I got into something here at the house where they might be useful. I've never used them at home. I've moved them around a few times, knocked dust off them, and debated if it was really worth keeping them around yet always put them back, just in case.
Something that uncomfortable, that insignificant, I've decided might still have usefulness. It makes me wonder what it takes for a person to be considered expendable. Just how much of a burden does a person have to be to people they have interacted with before they are thrown out?
