protest yesterday

yesterday there was a protest/march against the iraq war, the occupation in palestine or israel (i cant keep that one straight), and something about hurricane katrina. it started around 10-ish with speakers from everything related to the march. even reverend jessi jackson was there to speak! the marching part was basically around the capital, right back to the starting point. my mom woke me up early yesterday, claiming we had to get there at 10 (bullshit, there was no way we were gonna make that). i showered qith the 15 minutes of hot water i have even tho mom had told me to take a 5 minute shower.as i was dressing i was tryin to think of a shirt that would be against bush and i couldnt think of one until we'd already left. i went downstairs to breakfast and wondered why my mom was fussin over a pink jacket. louise came over and she had brought pink scarves for us if we didnt have pink. FINALLY mom told me that the women's portion of the march was called "code pink" so we had to wear pink. i ran upstairs, threw on my fingerless pink-n-black gloves and put a pink and purple scarf in my hair. everyone said i looked pretty when i got back downstairs. we walked to the metro and stood on the platform just chattin away. i remember now why i dont go towards downtown when i take the metro. the first two cars were practically empty but we were standing too far down for them. the last four cars were PACKED! we got off at judiciary square, and herded towards the exit we didnt want because the one we did want was "closed". we didnt have to walk that far but as we walked with protesters, we realized printed armbands werent gonna do much (especially since nancy lost hers). thankfully there were free signs for anyone to take (i'll take a pic and post it up soon). we had to wait for dad to find out where the logans were. nancy and i bought buttons. mine are "tell bush we won't go back" and "no to war no to racism". i wanted "impeach that son of a $%&*! bush". we found out the logans were on the other side of the mall so we walked over there, found a spot and waited. nancy and i laughed at the signs and the costumes. there was this really funny sign that said "condoms are great but pulling out is WAY better", but our favorite was "if i had a shilling for every sneseless killing, i'd buy a government". the speakers did a good job warming up the crowd by gettin us to chant certain things after they made statements. FINALLY the march started like after 1. of course, we were on the bad side and had to somehow merge into the line. for some reason, we crossed the street and walked on the other side, then got backed up again. we turned the corner onto Constitution Ave. and we were moving. we saw sophie and her friends and asked where her parents and brother was, moved on and finished. we walked back to the metro, passed the exit we had wanted. the escalators were both going up do no one could go down them which pissed my mom off. when we got to the other exit/entrance, there was a line that wasnt moving (because the escalators were stuck) but we figured the platform was full so instead, we hailed a cab. i think my favorite cheer was "violence and occupation do not lead to liberation that's bullshit! get off it! this war is for profit!" and sadly i didnt reach my goal of loosing my voice or gettin a shirt that said "wanted for mass murders" and had pictures of the administration. but it was fun anyway. nancy went back to chicago before i woke up and the logans left last night on a bus back to woods hole, boston.
