Personal Burr Oak Update

I happened to drive past Burr Oak last night while I was running some errands.

Needless to say, it's still off limits to the public. There were sherriff undercover cars blocking off the entrance, although one of the gates was open.

One of the investigated sections is still blocked off from view. I do believe this is the second site. The other is at the back of the cemetery. There is a neighborhood street that runs along side it, but there is quite a bit of overgrowth and trees, so in a sense I could see how you might have missed it unless you were above the fence. (Hence the ComEd guys making their report.)

This section is more toward the main street, the other side an on ramp for 294. There is some brush there as well. I don't quite see how this section would have been missed since quite a bit of it is viewable, but then again, I guess when you drive past a cemetery, you're not expecting to see a pile of bones and vaults.

They are still metal gates with a plastic covering around the section, which let me tell you, is quite a large area. At least they're trying to be discreet unlike the assholes that unearthed these poor people's remains.

I did notice what looked like "new" graves. This really disturbed me, mainly because they have halted new burials. So, were these people who were reburied or part of the investigation? I don't know.

A few weeks back they had many religious leaders come and "rebless" the grounds. Now, I've gone past here a few times since the whole ordeal began and I have to say, this was the first time the hairs really stood up on my arms. It was truly a disturbed and uneasy feeling.

Granted, one would kind of expect that. I mean, such a violation occurred here. I just find it a bit odd that I didn't have this feeling before.

Unfortunately, we'll never know the full story here nor ever really know if headstones match up to who is actually buried there. There was talk of unearthing the whole place. Personally, I think they should, but that's just me. They'll be doing a "mass" grave, I'm sure with a memorial listing those who were unearthed. This was kind of to be expected. My only problem with it is who do you list since you don't really know who is who.
