"the History Boys"

was a little confusing here and there but that's maybe the worst that I could say about it- I was very, very impressed. (Filmed with the same actors as are in the play, but during the summer before the run of the play, I gather. I haven't seen that though. The movie - about students, an inspiring but pedophilic teacher and several other teachers - and the headmaster - at a British boarding school in 1983 - was thought-provoking in several ways.)
by late New Years' Day, just to make all clear as. And all of that. (Maybe earlier, but I really, really doubt it now.)

Mac stuff briefly

Was going to upgrade my too-long-at-OS10.2 Mac to 10.4 but found out that it has to have built-in FireWire, which it doesn't; hope that that either isn't as essential as they say, or that something can be done about that after all and it doesn't have to have come with the port :) (again am only on for a couple of minutes. Going to see a movie soon)

Only just heard that

Gerald Ford died. At 93 but with the condition he'd been in the last few years, still :(. Decent fellow, I gather. Might be writing a year-in-review in here and in another blog later today, but have an appointment to go to first, so off with me for a bit. Eric
Highly recommended treatment of a fellow's search for his grandparents' history...

If you're online today

remember to open your CT present ! :)

Thank You for Smoking

Both fun and pointed. Enjoyed this film.

Inside Man

Just finished seeing this movie about 15 minutes or so ago. Very highly recommended. Very good, well-developed, well-acted, smart, suspenseful film (to quote myself somewhere else!)

Hap'ly seen Happy Feet

(And where else to write about an animated penguin film?) Bad news- a few scenes were confusing. Maybe 98%, an A-. *sniff* I enjoyed the movie a whole lot and am looking forward to seeing the "2007 Penguin Movie", Surf's Up and finding out what the 2008 Penguin Movie will be, and that of 2009 (yes. I am joking!! If this is any sort of trend, I could not be happier, William said in a chilly voice.) Eric
Well, it is typical that someone like me who came here by various steps from LiveJournal (and there from KeenSpot) - my account on LiveJournal, a blogging site first, social-networking site second, was set up on December 31, 2001 while I was in the middle of a New Years' Eve get-together with some people from CalvinChat (IRCish but not using IRC software)... (I really need to write that far less confuzzlingly) It's typical that my first thought in some situations is "I should blog that". Write in my journal. People do mean different things by this, as has been said so often as not to need further explanation; I do this both to explain the subject I'm writing about better to myself, and to explain it to several people at once, rather than talk about it to them individually one by one and say the same thing to each in messengers, shouts, e-mails- it's more efficient to give all of them access to a blog in which I say that same thing once. And I am, above all, a lazy bugger- I have Larry Wall's* bit down pat there (it's one of the rules of good programming, laziness is, though there are others listed I haven't mastered. :) ) Hrm. I had a point, I had a point somewhere, to borrow the SuperGuy writer ShadowyWriter's phrasing... here point point point, plot want a cracker?... (And the CalvinChat was the gatheringplace for the SuperGuy writers and their fans, and I recommend reading the SG archives for superhero humor parody, if that's as much up your line as it is up mine; it's very funny stuff. Just a thought.) Ah yes. Briefly put, hopefully to be expanded on later- I hope so, it's a very brief point to append to a lengthier digression ;^) like that!... - if I've added you to one of my lists, you're most likely to stay on in the long term (assuming you don't decide to drop me, I mean) if we maintain a conversation. Yes, I'm as interested in image, photos, music (I'm obsessed with classical and interested in other kinds), this that other, as the next person somewhat like me... - but if we don't keep in touch with one another once in awhile, then even if we don't "drop from each others' lists" then we've dropped from each others' minds. I have people I think of as friends I haven't contacted in much too long, and then much too briefly- something I really need to think about; has the nature of our friendship changed, is it a period in my life, am I just a distractable person (well, I know the answer to that one anyway), do I worry that too much contact feels like bludgeoning and badgering (I know the answer to that one, and doesn't that belong under the autism blog list)... That starts getting too personal, to the extent that I'm tempted to restrict access to it- there are people who I wouldn't want happening on that, if they have accounts on this site (I don't know if they do) and if they still remember arguments I had with them (years back, which ring painfully in my mind but which I suspect they've forgotten quite entirely)- but I think public is the way to go on this. This is, however, more rumination than anything else- if it feels like whining I really will have to rewrite it, not so much for content as for - connotation I suppose, because that's not the intention. *More or less the inventor of the computer language PERL, I guess!
