Eric S notapenguin's blog: "penguinBlog"

Well, I needed to be reminded that this year it begins to work differently!

Guestbook

Late of a morning but before I go- I did add a guestbook to my profile page ( www.cherrytap.com/eschiss1 ) - it's a bit far down the page at the moment... though I may well move it up toward the top or at least middle more. If you stop by the page, feel free to add yourself; of course, anything very badly out of line will be deleted.

Without incident

Almost uneventful day- train, busride, etc.

Bit the update

No, did not bite the update. Had a barber appt. this morning, also bought some trimming equipment. Later today going to a support group, and then to a Chinese New Year party held by some very long-time friends. Right now listening to some of last Tuesday's BBC 3 Tchaikovsky Experience programming (really should listen to last Saturday's, as it will be going off the server... let's see... yep, listening to http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/tchaikovskyexperience/pip/sfq4s/ now (Tchaikovsky's 1865 B-flat quartet movement, Stravinsky's concertino, etc. - then lunch, etc. :) ) Dad's now an ex-dentist so dental appt tomorrow will be with someone else. That's ok too :) Monday, fairly regular appt. with prescribing doctor (mostly for certain kinds of medications; she's related but also an excellent doctor). Should be a pretty good weekend.
Busride was delayed as usual by Friday traffic and full of incident besides, but- got in ok, had a great dinner with my family at a Vietnamese restaurant in the 90s in Manhattan, looking forward to a good and interesting weekend (with a dental checkup probably much needed).

Thursday, 15th Feb 07

was remarkably productive. Both appointments went well, and got some work done at the university inbetween. Tomorrow- have to finish my application, then a lengthy (traffic-slowed) bus to Port Authority ("Who's your port..." don't even think it, that's a horrrrrrrrible joke.)
tomorrow-- appointments - nutrition, apartment. Friday - travel downstate to the NY City/Long Island area until Tuesday afternoon to visit family, for a doctor appt, and for an Asperger (etc.) support meeting. (may begin PenguinBlog2 soon: I'm greedy and like having your much-appreciated votes count ;^) *g*, and a too-long blog can get unwieldy and difficult of search - admittedly the longest ones here only have 40-45 posts.)
In a hurry to do some work so my opinion on the holiday will go in another blog, but the subject line does summarize it (and yes, I am and almost always have been single, and for most of that time not looking)... Site's been down for me all morning. Time for me to get some work done since I have an appointment tomorrow. :) (Edit: hrm. Printing out three biggish 800k or so files may- take a bit...) This one, not to be missed - by me... Eric

Reciprocity

There's degrees and degrees to things, degrees and degrees. We call a situation where someone insists that for every 80 pictures that they rate in someone's gallery, the other should be rating 80 back, "mechanical" reciprocity; it's a certain kind of reciprocity, but certainly not the only kind. A situation in which someone takes and never gives, any such situation, lacks any reciprocity at all. And a sort of approximate, over time, it'll work out eventually (expectation of) reciprocity exists, and a lack of need for reciprocity in every last sort of thing - this tends to be my opinion and isn't universally shared- in a healthy friendship. (If I don't mention names it's because I really am not saying "oh, you know who you are, I'm not..." - erm.- besides the fact that I'm not excluding myself, the attitude I don't like so very much is all over the site- and not just this site- and not just-... and I have to leave now, meeting a friend for a get-together, so...)

Noted randomly of movies

I was going to say that Little Miss Sunshine was the only movie I saw in 2006 to mention Nietzsche (I haven't seen that many movies) but I'd have to add The History Boys to the list. Though Little Miss Sunshine mentioned Proust also (and the second of the two of course a much wider range still). Good year for interesting movies in and out of the mainstream by the way...
