I was with a local volunteer Fire Department for 23 years; I was Ex-Captain of a Fire Police Company then joined a Truck company I enjoyed being with all the great people who volunteer about 70% of their time and being away from their families.
I retired from this great service; however, I sometimes miss and think about the good times and not so good times.
We all became brothers and sister, a family as it were.
You know the old saying, you can take the man out of the Fire Department but you cannot take the Fire Department out of the man.
After being with them and knowing what they all go through and the risks they take no question asks 24/7 I offer this firefighters Prayer and post it on my Webpage to all of you out there in the service.

A Firemen's Prayer

When I am called to duty, God Wherever Flames may rage Give me the strength to save some life Whatever Be its age Help me embrace a little child Before it is too late Or save an older person from The horror of that fate Enable me to be alert and Hear the weakest shout And quickly and efficiently To put the fire out I want to fill my calling and To give the best in me To guard my every neighbor And protect their property And if according to your will I have to lose my life Please bless with your protecting hand My children and my wife.
