"I suppose in some way the reassurances and overall satisfaction of helping make you appreciate what you have more. It is easy to take the little things for granted. Get lost in the "what I don't have" mentality. But in the end when you think of how much worse it could be, then, the regular and ordinary seem fantastic and extraordinary." -- El Chango
My friend I have known for several years now and I were emailing back and forth tonight during a lull period while I am at work. We were discussing the rewards and disappointments/frustrations with the line of work that I do, as well as some of the things I do to escape the horrifying stories I hear through work.
I love what he said, as quoted above, don't you? He is right. I find the glimmer of hopes in what I do, but occasionally the dismal affects of the job can seem daunting at times. Taking the little lights of hope when they come, they can make a huge difference -- just as any small step that a victim makes towards freedom can be just as exhilarating!
