What are you waiting for?

personality, journals, and something or other Similar themes, different ways by Jan 23, 2007 So, how long have you known yourself? People still take various personality tests to learn more about themselves after knowing themselves for as long as they do. And sometimes it leads to more understanding about themselves even after being around themselves, and such for as long as they have existed. People are often still trying to " discover " themselves after they become adults. It seems like you should know yourself better than anyone else in the world. Can you guess my next question? So why is it that people sometimes feel they can sum up others after about 5 minutes with them????? Or sometimes one day? One week? A whole year? You've been around yourself for a long time, and you are still learning about yourself, but you know mostly about how this other person is after your first glance, first conversation, first impression,.... Wouldn't it be great if we had such outstanding perceptional abilitities when it came to ourselves? You could just look yourself in the mirror in the morning ( or whatever time of day ) and know everything about yourself. The weird thing, is anytime you changed your clothes you would be totally different. You put on an odd shirt, and you would be a totally different person maybe, since how that is often how we percieve other people, by what they look like, and the clothes they wear. How many complete different personalities would you see for yourself??? Talk about MPD.... Ok. I have written about it before a long time ago, so I will just leave it at that. Anymore and I'd just continue beating the dead horse. Journals...... Yes, my english teacher still seems to be rather condascending and says somewhat offensive things. But whatever, some people are just that way. It seems like your journal ought to reflect the real you, if the pourpose of writing it is partially to let people know how you were. So writing how you talk, and how you are seems like the thing to do, no matter what it is. Why lie?? I guess you could write down all these awesome things about yourself that aren't true, or just write the good things, or good side of things. And you could try to make yourself sound perfect for people to read about when you are dead. I've often thought about writing a diary of weird stuff that I never actually did before I died, so people would get really weirded out when they read it. Maybey talke about treasures or bodies I buried in varieous places. Or other wild tales and write about them as if they really happened. It seems honesty is the better idea though. His point of view of journals is so people can read them after you die, and know how you were basicly. The offensive thing he talked about is the use of " offensive language ". He said you didn't want people remembering you or thinking of you " that way " or something to that effect. Well why the FUCK not? #1- I don't see that as negative at all.( He implied it was, that's the offensive part about what he said. ) But more important #2- If you talk like that in real life, and that is how you are, then it seems rather dishonest to misrepresent yourself by not doing it in your journal. He talked about how some prominant authors have done it in books to make characters and such better and more dramatic basicly, and it has worked, but it doesn't belong in Journals. ( Later on he talked about not using really long sentences. ) In a journal, you are trying to make a character realistic and true though. You are formulating yourself as a character. By giving the best ( meaning most honest and accurate ) depiction of yourselft seems to be the right thing to do. Otherwise it seems like lieing, or whatever the opposite of slander is. It seems wrong to encourage people to misrepresent themselves. I don't go around looking down on people who don't use those words. And if I did, I wouldn't tell them to use them when they wrote their journals so people wouldn't look down on them after they died!!!! Bottom line- I think the people who take much consideration in what other people that they don't know think of them when they are alive have issues, and I feel sorry for them. But the people who take great heart in what strangers think of them after they are dead, I think they have serious self-esteme issues, especially if they feel they should misrepresent themselves in their journals. And condascending people who preach this, contribute to people being ashamed of them selves while they are alive without good reason or merit. There was one more thing i was going to write about, but I forgot what it was. so I guess that will have to wait untill it resurfaces in my thoughts.
