A helpful tip from the Pedro Archives:
Ever notice in Yahoo Messenger if you set an away message once you can't get rid of it? If you want to, there is a way, editing the windows registry. Standard Boilerplate on registry editing: The windows registry is important to system function, deleting the wrong thing can wreck your computer, so tread lightly, and if you are unsure of what you are doing, don't do it.
That being said, it really isn't all that difficult. Click on start, run, and type in regedit and click ok. That will open the windows registry editor.
Now you can drill down through all the tabs to find the Yahoo -> Pager -> Profiles -> Alerts or you can take the easy way: Press F3 to bring up a search box and type in the message from yahoo you want to remove. *Warning* When I say search on the message, it should be something you will only find in your yahoo messenger something like "I'm at the mall with aunt sally" not something like "Binary Data" or "CurrentVersion" if your search brings you somewhere that isn't filled with all your yahoo away messages, then you aren't in the right place.
If you are in the right place, you should see all your happy little Yahoo Messenger Away messages, each message has three registry keys associated with it. See example:
Make sure Yahoo Messenger is closed, and then delete all three keys that are associated with the message you want to delete. They have a number in front of them, so you know which one they are for.
Do not delete the away.bin and away.msg keys. Those are just how Yahoo remembers your last away message. as long as you get the three numbered keys with your message, the next time you open messenger it will be gone.
Once you are finished, open Yahoo Messenger, and the old away message will be gone.
If you see a blank line, do not fret, you may have missed a key, probably the #_bin key is still there, close messenger and go back and make sure to get all the keys.
