(received this email back in 2005. It was about a "Blood" Gang Initiation weekend that was coming up in September. It is scary to think that something that you think might be doing someone a favor may just end up setting yourself up for danger. I have no idea as to whether or not the initiation practice still goes on, but, as the email says, it is often to err on the side of caution and a bit of awareness. IF YOU DO FIND SOMEONE HAS TURNED AROUND ON YOU AFTER YOUR FLASHING YOUR LIGHTS, PLEASE OH PLEASE CALL 911, GET YOURSELF IN A PUBLIC PLACE, AND (IF AT ALL POSSIBLE) DRIVE DIRECTLY TOWARDS A POLICE STATION.)

I am not sure how true this is. It was from a co-worker who would not make things like this up.
I have asked another friend of mine who has a cop for a husband (who is very familiar with gang activity) to get their opinion.

My brother is a Police Officer in Shreveport, and he's told me that same thing. Don't flash your lights at anyone that doesn't have
their headlights on.

Police Depts across the nation are being warned that September 23rd and 24th is the "blood" initiation weekend.
Police officers working with the DARE program has issued this warning:
If you are driving after dark and see an on-coming car with no headlights on,
DO NOT FLASH YOUR LIGHTS AT THEM!
This is a common Bloods gang member "initiation game" that goes like this:
The new gang member under initiation drives along with no headlights, and the first car to flash their headlights at him is now is "target". He is now required to turn around and chase that car, then shoot and kill every individual in the vehicle in order to complete his initiation requirements.
Police Depts. across the nation are being warned that September 23rd and 24th is the "blood" initiation weekend. Their intent is to have all the new bloods nationwide drive around on Friday and Saturday nights with their
headlights off. In order to be accepted into the gang, they have to shoot and kill all individuals in the first auto that does
a courtesy flash to warn them that their lights are off. Make sure you share this information with all the drivers in your family!
