Memory

She had eyes of chocolate and golden tresses.
We exchanged glances, her eyes gleamed of mischief.
Words passed from her ruby lips, the melody ringing in the still air.
I gestured with my hands towards the book she sought
because I did not trust my words to spill from my lips without err.
I kneeled down to get the book, motioning her to do the same.
I watched her study the book for a brief moment, her eyes scanning the binding.
Her head moved just slightly, silky hair brushing across my face.
Her shampoo permeated the surrounding air with a fresh... clean smell.
Exhaling the sweet ambrosia of her hair took significant effort.
Her head turned slightly, our faces close enough to feel her breath upon my cheek.
I held my breath as I stared into her luminous eyes.
The suggestion of a question marred her face as we gazed at each other.
Did she see in me what I saw in her? Did she see the confusion or the desire?
The moment however, like all moments, passed like a fleeting wind.
We both got up, a redness moved through her face.
We parted more than what we started out as...
More than strangers, but less than what?
She glanced back at me before she crossed the threshold of the store.
Her eyes spread fire through my body, a heat that was too intense to bear.
She turned, hips swaying with sinuous grace, and left my life.
I stood there for mere minutes, staring into the nothingness that her presence left behind.
