For years now I've contended that me and my kids are exposed to so much more these days, mostly because of cable TV and the internet. I think I might have been to quick to make that assessment.
I was channel surfing in the wee hours this morning and like most of the time, there was nothing that caught my interest so I started back through the several hundred channels again. I saw a movie listed, "On a Clear Day" that I remembered seeing when I was a kid and that got me thinking. It doesn't at all seem like the kind of movie my mom or dad would watch and I certainly wasn't going to watch it this morning, but back in the 60's and 70's we had two channels - NBC and CBS. We watched whatever was on, or read a book or something. I remember liking a lot of things back then, not just tolerating them like I do now. I remember devouring the Sunday paper, something I would never do now. I read some now as I always have, but when I think about it there's not much variety in what I read. It's just things that hold my interest.
And here's a wake up call that happened last week - my mother referred me to a web site. I'll say that again. My mother who never touched a computer until 2 years ago told me about a web site where I could find some information I'd been looking for. I never knew it even existed! Why? Because it is not sports and has no funny videos I guess.
So that's my big revelation this week. Unlike my parents, there's a whole world within my reach, and unlike my parents I am content to sit in my corner.
