The sun pours in the kitchen window
golden rays shine through the steam
the smell of chicken stock fills the house
the warm scent of life's simple pleasures
the kids all know and they are a grinning
she smiles, knowing they won't feud or fight
that today they will be on their best behavior
cause momma's making chicken bumps tonight
she stirs the kettle and the steam is rising
the stock as golden as the warm sunlight
she strains the broth and gets the fixings
and begins to mix up the dumpling dough
smiling the kids all come quickly running
they hover round the kitchen in pure delight
till she makes them go set the dinner table
cause momma's making chicken bumps tonight
she spoons them deftly into the boiling broth
humming as one by one the big pan is filled
she put the cover on the pot to let them steam
till patience is rewarded and supper's ready
plates are gladly filled and thanks are given
the young ones all dig in till the bowl is empty
the plates are clean and they all are contented
cause momma's made chicken bumps tonight
