tonight i attended the brian mcknight concert in downtown oakland. mostly to support my homie, matt cusson. he plays keyboard and sings backup for brian. ALSO he is working on his debut album with brian currently [brian set up a recording studio on his bus, so they record on the road].. watching matty 'make love' to that keyboard is enough to make any girl cream!
anyway, the show was awesome. matty has opened for brian every show on his european tour but this time in oakland 'Joe' opened and sang some shit that took me back to high school days. dayuumm.. the girls were goin crazy!
after the show we waited for matty and brian to come out of the back. i met brian and his two sons brian jr. and niko. niko was THE SHIT! he might have been the coolest fourteen year old kid i have ever met! picture a slender black kid with dreads and an 'iron maiden' t-shirt. [he played bass and guitar for his daddy on stage for two or three songs. this kid was kickass!]
so we got to talking after the show and i told him i never thought i would see anyone sporting a fucking iron maiden shirt at a brian mcknight concert! he said "well your hair is badass, and so is my shirt! so we totally go!" i told him i DEFINITELY should have worn MY iron maiden shirt! and he completely agreed. so then we got to talking about AC/DC and Whitesnake. he's a huge fan. he said he's been getting his dad into it as of late. who woulda "thunk"? then all of the sudden niko and i broke out into song together and serenaded the crowd with whitesnake's "is this love" he sang lead and i harmonized. it was pretty fucking awesome.
i think i made a friend!
hahaha!
this kid was by far so much radder than his daddy.
besides, brian [sr.] shakes hands like a girl. matty agrees. i think that's something he needs to work on.
werd.
pee ess: moms pumped me full of double shots of vodka. lord knows how many drinks i had before the show. the crazy ass made me drive there too! i was pee-issed! good thing we found the raddest californian asian fusion restaurant ever! [matty was a good sport about that too.. poor thing is exhausted].
