ok, that's nothing in the way of things, and sense is always thrown out the window early on, in times, Of Great Enthusiasm and Fun (for one of the groups anyway...)
but retaliating against newbies might give pause to anyone not involved in a mob action (which is ... not the case, I know. Anyone know about me that I HATE MOB ACTIONS?)
Anyhow. My main point before I blow my top even more completely, having already lost my intended audience in a fit of restraint ;^) -
successful sites have "don't bite the newbies" policies and guidelines. (This "rate me 10 or give me death" bit by the way, is not a policy. It is someone's cute idea.)
But it comes nowhere close in importance to the importance of taking newcomers in hand and making them
Want. To. Come. Back... whether they agree with your cute idea of how the site's rating system should be run, or not.
