Showed the as-of-now version of (my PDF transcription using LilyPond of) the finale of Reißiger's 11th trio to my job coach. Several persistent problems including: 1) places where there's only one line (right- or left-hand) of piano music - not really acceptable in a Romantic-era score. I thought I had a solution to this, but no. 2) copyediting. Try twenty-four bars before the end- a mess I've tried solving a few different ways without having to rewrite the entire file that generates the PDF. There may not be one short of, well, rewriting the entire file (and manually changing staves rather than autochanging them at middle C, as now.) It's clear in the score, a G-sharp in the right hand, a G-natural in the left, that are a semitone apart- your hands are right next to each other for just that moment; but- because I chose the "autochange staves when note is below middle C" option for convenience, both notes are in the lower staff, and they run right _into_ each other. I had to put a (natural) next to the left-hand G to emphasize that it wasn't also a G-sharp, and in a normal score the G-sharp would be spaced over a little to the left to make that parentheses-framed natural sign more visible... but not here. Still a lot to learn about this program- and when I can finally install the latest version, a lot to unlearn and learn about that one- but it's worth it. I'm enjoying myself. Other copyediting is more simple- there shouldn't be two "piano- dolce" (one from the left hand, one from the right hand) bumping right into each other in one bar; I need to remove one. I need to be more consistent about italicization. That sort of thing. But considering how little time this took me, 376 bars... and that the parts can be extracted (if I do a bit more work, will still look nice afterwards) - ... three movements to go :) ... I'm happy. Next projects- most important: Benjamin Frankel (1906-73) syms. 1 and 6 (not arranged with publisher, but agreed with stepson to some extent...), and anything that will help me practice this for possible (just possible) paid work doing this sort of thing. Saw a few pieces listed in Cornell's lib. catalog that satisfy my requirements (not in locked press, copyright expired apparently, etc.) including Salomon Jadassohn's (1831-1902) string quartet in C minor op. 10 which I expect will be an interesting score to produce if I try! (I've had a look at a few works of his already.) And one other project, very much in (c)opyright - I will not be publishing that or the Frankel here, and I will ask the rights-holder Alistair Hinton about this one, he provided me with the score years ago on condition I produce a performing edition- KS Sorabji's 1964-9 Toccata no. 4 for piano. Never got around to it- just a few MIDIs- he's given, with my assent *g*, the work to someone else, but I wouldn't mind practicing on a page or four or five of it (seven movements, 149 pages) to see; it would really test my abilities to transfer, etc. a piece.
