An Amazing Oddity

There were at least 1,000 - possibly 2,000, or at least 500 of them - aquatic creatures that could live within the fire, or so mythology would say about the salamander...

How amazed and delighted was I when I saw the shine of hundreds and hundreds of salamanders on an exodus from their wetland birthing place to another habitat.  Together they all moved across the black pavement. They were everywhere, as far as my eyes could see in the soft night. Of course I tried to pick one up, because I have always been amazed by nature. They sprang into a defensive posture while I walked carefully between them, which means they stood as tall as they could on their four legs and tensed and curved their tail up. It was impressive. I have never seen such a thing since, and this happened about 20 years ago.

The most interesting mass movement I have seen lately is that of worms after it rained alot. I always feel bad when they have to leave their natural place and cross the man made streets, so I spent awhile picking them up and putting them back onto the grass. I guess if I were a fisherman I would have put them into a container for a relaxing day of bobber watching - but I am not a fisherman. I can not even catch a fish on the Xbox360 Rapala Fishing Tournament; but its fun to drive the boat. Mrs. Puff would be proud.
