Bizarro World

WELCOME TO BIZZARO WORLD!! Following is a short list of my observations - JUST TODAY - of things that make no sense to me. Shadowboxing is what it looks like to my psyche, because surely we MUST have moved beyond some of these supposed issues...

I once wrote an essay on my prolonged visit to the Secretary of State's office. I noted the people that were huddled in duets, trios, or solos. I listened, just briefly, to the closest so that I could get a sense of what they were there for. I made up scenarios for those I could not hear. I enjoyed writing that in my mind, while I patiently waited for my number to be called.

Today I drove past what used to be the biggest water park, mini golf, video game arcade, go cart, and batting cage facility around. It was called Funtyme. Now a new building sits there, its neon blue sign declared SECRETARY OF STATE.

I laughed.

I like Sarah Palin. She is a real person. She is going to be on Fox News with another person I trust to give me good information - Bill O'Reilly. Sometimes he swears. So do I. Why was the elder President Bush subjected to somebody babbling to him when he visited a restaurant? Are there not people who are supposed to protect him? Freedom of Speech is important though - President Bush and all those before and after him acted in ways to protect our rights as American citizens to exercise that right, but surely there are also proper ways to tell somebody that you disagree with them. Maybe the Secret Service guys could have given the disgruntled man that was babbling an email he could write to. Or maybe he could go to some town hall meetings and give solutions (even bizzaro ones) to his issues, instead of just hurling insults.

But then I got all confused again because Reverend Al does not like the word negro. And somebody else is in trouble for saying something about the skin tone of now President Obama. I am just so DONE with all of it. I am proud of my African heritage, my Asian heritage, my Native American heritage, my European heritage, my Pacific Islander heritage, because if we all come from Adam and Eve, then we all must have the same threads, some just more clearly than others. And no, God did not have to do it all in 7 24 hour days (well, 6, because the 7th was for a well deserved rest). Divinity does not have to adhere to a mortal timeline.

I sit there, and I watch these educated, entitled, well-fed, mind melders (because for some they are doing just that), and I can't help but think of a charismatic man that told me he did alot of dumpster diving, and that the homeless shelters and the chow lines were what helped him most in his life. Then there was Edward, a nice man from New York with tattoos all over his face, going to law school. I saw him in the mall and hailed him over to myself and my children so I could ask him a little about the choices he had made with his skin, and he made me laugh by telling me that where he came from it was a little risky to just go to people that called out to you. I think about all the needs I saw in the many, many months I spent in various hospitals with my oldest daughter (an amazing woman), while she nurtured her family while leukemia relentlessly stomped over my baby grandson.

There is so many REALLY IMPORTANT things in the world, yet we in this young and truly thriving country, can not get past the color of birth given skin. I decided I really liked the Lizard Man. He speaks well, and he probably does not give a rat's ass what color anybody else's skin is, nor what they think about HIS skin. That is so refreshing.

Finally, I do so like my vet. He told me long ago that there were no good girls, just good dogs, and that all women should get distemper shots. I like him because he is so freakin' politically incorrect, but he just oozes good man. Give me a green skinned wisecracking GOOD PERSON, caring for the needs of others - human and/or animal - and THAT is who I want to meld the minds of the future. Fine - the green skin is optional (I would not want to be ummm... colorist) but the open minded disregard for the tribal divides is a MUST!
