Since 2002, 124 Canadian soldiers, one diplomat and two Aid workers have been killed/died in Afghanistan. Here is a list of the fallen:

2002
April 17 — Sgt. Marc Leger, Cpl. Ainsworth Dyer, Pte. Richard Green and Pte. Nathan Smith, killed when U.S. F-16 fighter mistakenly bombed Canadians.

2003
Oct. 2 — Sgt. Robert Short and Cpl. Robbie Beerenfenger, killed in roadside bombing.

2004
Jan. 27 — Cpl. Jamie Murphy, killed in suicide bombing while on patrol.

2005
Nov. 24 — Pte. Braun Woodfield, killed when his armoured vehicle rolled over.

2006
Jan. 15 — Glyn Berry, British-born Canadian diplomat, killed in suicide bombing.

March 2 — Cpl. Paul Davis and Master Cpl. Timothy Wilson, killed when their armoured vehicle ran off road.

March 29 — Pte. Robert Costall, killed in firefight with Taliban.

April 22 — Cpl. Matthew Dinning, Bombardier Myles Mansell, Lt. William Turner and Cpl. Randy Payne, killed when their G-Wagon destroyed by roadside bomb.

May 17 — Capt. Nichola Goddard, an artillery officer, killed in Taliban ambush. She was first Canadian woman to be killed in action while serving in combat role.

July 9 — Cpl. Anthony Boneca, killed in firefight.

July 22 — Cpl. Francisco Gomez and Cpl. Jason Warren, killed when car packed with explosives rammed their armoured vehicle.

Aug. 3 — Cpl. Christopher Reid, killed by roadside bomb. Sgt. Vaughan Ingram, Cpl. Bryce Keller and Pte. Kevin Dallaire, killed in rocket-propelled grenade attack.

Aug. 5 — Master Cpl. Raymond Arndt, killed when his G-Wagon patrol vehicle collided with truck.

Aug. 9 — Master Cpl. Jeffrey Walsh killed, by apparent accidental discharge of rifle.

Aug. 11 — Cpl. Andrew Eykelenboom, killed in suicide attack.

Aug. 22 — Cpl. David Braun, killed in suicide attack.

Sept. 3 — Sgt. Shane Stachnik, Warrant Officer Frank Robert Mellish, Warrant Officer Richard Francis Nolan and Pte. William Jonathan James Cushley, killed in fighting in Panjwaii district.

Sept. 4 — Pte. Mark Anthony Graham, killed when two U.S. aircraft accidentally strafed Canadian troops in the Panjwaii district.

Sept 18 --- Cpl. Glen Arnold, Pte. David Byers, Cpl. Shane Keating and Cpl. Keith Morley, killed in suicide attack.

Sept 29 --- Pte. Josh Klukie, killed after triggering what may have been an improvised explosive device (IED) on a road in Afghanistan's Panjwaii district.

Oct 3 --- Sgt. Craig Paul Gillam and Cpl. Robert Thomas James Mitchell, killed in Taliban insurgents attack in the Panjwaii district.

Oct 7 --- Trooper Mark Andrew Wilson, killed when the armoured vehicle he was in struck a mine or a roadside bomb in the Panjwaii district.

Oct 14 --- Sgt. Darcy Tedford and Pte. Blake Williamson, killed when a rocket-propelled grenade exploded over their heads.

Nov 27 --- Chief Warrant Officer Robert Girouard and Cpl. Albert Storm were killed in a suicide bomb attack near Kandahar.

2007
Mar 2 --- Cpl. Kevin Megeney was killed in a non-combat shooting.

Apr 8 --- Sgt. Donald Lucas, Cpl. Aaron E. Williams,
Pte. Kevin Vincent Kennedy, Pte. David Robert Greenslade, Cpl. Christopher Paul Stannix, and Cpl. Brent Poland were killed when their armoured vehicle struck a roadside bomb west of Kandahar City.

Apr 11--- Master Cpl. Allan and Trooper Patrick James Pentland where killed in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan.

Apr 18--- Master Cpl. Anthony Klumpenhouwer died in what military officials are calling an unfortunate and tragic accident.When fell from a communication tower somewhere within Kandahar City.

May 25--- Cpl. Matthew McCully was killed when an improvised explosive device detonated near a combined Afghan-Canadian patrol,approximately 35 kilometres west of Kandahar City in the volatile Zhari district.

May 30--- Master Cpl. Darrell Jason Priede was killed in a helicopter crash in southern Afghanistan.

Jun 11--- Trooper Darryl Caswell was killed when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Afghanistan

Jun 20--- Cpl. Stephen Frederick Bouzane, Pte. Joel Vincent Wiebe, and Sgt. Christos Karigiannis were killed when the vehicle they were in was struck by an improvised explosive device

Jul 04--- Capt. Matthew Johnathan Dawe, Master Cpl. Colin Bason, Cpl. Cole Bartsch, Pte. Lane Watkins, Cpl. Jordan Anderson and Captain Jefferson Francis. When the vehicle they were in hit a roadside bomb in the Panjwaii district of Afghanistan.

Aug 19--- Pte. Simon Longtin was killed when the vehicle he was traveling in, a LAV III, struck a roadside bomb.

Aug 22--- Master Cpl. Christian Duchesne and Master Warrant Officer Mario Mercier were killed when a roadside bomb exploded during a patrol in southern Afghanistan.

Aug 29--- Major Raymond Ruckpaul was found significantly injured within the confines of the ISAF HQ in Kabul and later died of his injuries. The matter is under investigation by ISAF authorities and the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service.

Sept 24--- Cpl. Nathan Hornburg was killed by a mortar shell while on patrol about eight kilometres west of Ma'sum Ghar.Six other soldiers wounded.

Nov 17--- Cpl. Nicolas Raymond Beauchamp, and Pte. Michel Levesque were killed when their Light Armoured Vehicle hit a roadside bomb near Kandahar. Three other soldiers wounded.

Dec 30--- Gunner Jonathan Dion was killed when the armoured vehicle he was in struck a roadside bomb in the Zhari district, about 20 kilometres west of Kandahar City.

2008

Jan 06--- Cpl. Eric Labbe, and WO Hani Massouhwere were killed when their armoured vehicle rolled over in rough terrain near Kandahar City.

Jan 15--- Trooper Richard Renaud was killed when the heavily armoured vehicle he was travelling in hit a roadside bomb.

Jan.23 --- Cpl. Etienne Gonthier was killed when the light armoured vehicle he was in hit a roadside bomb in the Panjwaii district of Kandahar province.

Mar.02 --- Trooper Michael Yuki Hayakaze was killed when his vehicle was hit by an IED in the Mushan region of Afghanistan.

Mar 11 --- Bombardier Jeremie Ouellet was found dead in Kandahar Airfield, but that his death is "not related to combat.

Mar 16 --- Sgt. Jason Boyes was killed after he stepped on an explosive device while on a routine foot patrol in Afghanistan's turbulent Panjwaii District

Apr 04 --- Pte. Terry John Street was killed after his armoured vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in the volatile Panjwaii district southwest of Kandahar city.

May 06 --- Cpl. Michael Starker, of Calgary, was killed Tuesday in an ambush by insurgents in the Pashmul region of Zhari district, about 25 kilometres outside of the city.

June 03 --- Capt. Richard Steven Leary was killed during a dismounted security patrol with Afghan partners when his convoy came under enemy attack in the Panjwaii district of Kandahar province.

June 08 -- Capt. Jonathan Sutherland Snyder died after tumbling down a well during a night-time patrol in the Zhari district.

July 04 -- Cpl. Brendan Anthony Downey's body was discovered on Thursday in the living quarters at Camp Mirage, a base in the Persian Gulf that is used as a staging area for Canadian airlifts to Afghanistan.

July 06 -- Pte. Colin William Wilmot, died during an over night foot patrol in Panjwai district

July 18 -- Cpl. James Hayward Arnal died after he was hit by an explosion during a night patrol in the Panjwaii district.

Aug 09 -- MCpl. Josh Roberts died of a gunshot wound suffered in a firefight with Afghan insurgents in the volatile Zhari district.

Aug 11 -- MCpl. Erin Doyle died after insurgents attacked a remote outpost in the volatile Panjwaii district.

Aug 13 -- Canadian aid workers Jacqueline Kirk and Shirley Case were shot dead by gunmen who opened fire on their vehicle near the capital Kabul, Afghan.

Aug 20 -- Sgt. Shawn Allen Eade, Cpl. Dustin Roy Robert Joseph Wasden, Sapper Stephan John Stock, were killed by an improvised explosive device while on patrol in Afghanistan's Zhari district.

Sept 03 -- Pte. Chadwick James Horn, Cpl. Michael James Alexander Seggie and Cpl. Andrew Paul Grenon were killed during a fatal ambush in Afghanistan's volatile Zhari district.

Sept 07 -- Sgt. Scott Shipway was killed by roadside bomb attack in Kandahar province's Panjwaii district

Dec 05 -- Cpl. Mark Robert McLaren, Warrant Officer Robert John Wilson and Pte. Demetrios Diplaros, were killed when their armoured vehicle was struck by a large IED.

Dec 13 -- Cpl. Thomas James Hamilton, Pte. John Michael Roy Curwin and Pte. Justin Peter Jones were killer when their armoured vehicle struck an improvised explosive device west of Kandahar city.

Dec 26 -- Pte. Michael Bruce Freeman, was killed and three others were wounded after an improvised explosive device went off in the Zhari District of Kandahar Province.

Dec 27 -- WO. Gaeten Joseph Roberge, Sgt. Greg John Kruse were killed after a bomb exploded while the two soldiers were on security patrol about 24 kilometres west of Kandahar City.

2009

Jan 07 -- Trooper Brian Richard Good was killed when an improvised explosive device detonated near their armoured vehicle in Afghanistan's Shah Wali Kowt district.

Jan 31-- Sapper Sean David Greenfield was killed in Afghanistan Saturday as he participated in a major operation to locate bomb-making factories in Taliban territory.

Mar. 3 -- WO. Dennis Raymond Brown, Cpl. Dany Olivier Fortin, and Cpl. Kenneth Chad O'Quinn, were killed when an improvised explosive device detonated near an armoured vehicle during a patrol in the Arghandab District.

Mar 08 -- Trooper Marc Diab was killed by a roadside bomb in the southern portion of Shah Wali Kot district.


Mar. 20 -- MCpl. Scott Francis Vernelli, Cpl. Tyler Crooks,died when an improvised explosive device exploded near their patrol in the Zhari district, about 40 kilometres west of Kandahar.
Trooper Jack Bouthillier and Trooper Corey Joseph Hayes were killed when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb aroundin the Shah Wali Kot district.

Apr. 13 -- Trooper Karine Blais was killed when the armoured vehicle she was travelling in rolled over an improvised explosive device in the Shah Wali Khot district, north of Kandahar city.

Apr. 23 -- Major Michelle Mendes was found dead in her room at Kandahar Airfield.

June 08 -- Pte. Alexandre Peloquin was killed when an explosive device detonated during a foot patrol in the Panjwai District.

June 14 -- Cpl. Martin Dube was killed when an improvised explosive device he was attempting to defuse exploded.

July 03 -- Cpl. Nicholas Bulger was killed when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in Kandahar

July 04 -- MCpl. Charles-Philippe Michaud was critically injured after stepping on an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan. He slipped into a coma from which he never resurfaced, and died in a hospital in Quebec City.

July 06 -- Cpl. Martin Joannette and MCpl. Patrice Audet were killed when their CH-146 Griffon helicopter crashed in Zabul province, about 80 kilometres northeast of the city of Kandahar.
