The Departmet of Homeland security has black listed Vets. as possible domestic terroirst. They have informed law inforcement to be on the look out for vets as possile terrorist. So now I have to worry about driving around with my Vet plates I am a target.

This morning I wrote a post about a Homeland Security paper that warned about “right wing extremists” and the threat that they may pose to the government.

This paper basically lumped in people who are either pro second amendment, anti abortion, anti illegal immigration, or pro smaller government (or more than one or all of the above)  with white supremacists and domestic terrorists. As maddening as I found that paper there was one aspect to the paper that I missed this morning and to me it is much more egregious.

This is what the Department of Homeland Security thinks about our military men and women who are overseas fighting on our behalf:

the return of military veterans facing significant challenges reintegrating into their communities could lead to the potential emergence of terrorist groups or lone wolf extremists capable of carrying out violent attacks

That is unforgivable. To suggest that some of our troops will come home and form or join terrorist groups is beyond reprehensible. And why suddenly is the Department of Homeland Security suddenly using the “T” word again when talking about our troops when they refuse to call the actual terrorists what they are?

  The report continues:

Returning veterans possess combat skills and experience that are attractive to right-wing extremists,” it says. “DHS/I&A is concerned that right-wing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize veterans in order to boost their violent capacities

I find it very interesting to see how these people really feel about our veterans

Screw Over The Military!!

February 27, 2009 The Honorable Barack Obama President of the United States The White House Washington, DC Dear President Obama: On behalf of the millions of veterans represented by the veterans and military service organizations that have joined our effort, we write to express our serious concerns about a policy proposal that has been discussed this week in conjunction with the release of your first budget. We have been told that your Administration may be considering a proposal that would allow the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care system to bill a veteran’s insurance for the care and treatment of a disability or injury that was determined to have been incurred in or the result of the veteran’s honorable military service to our country. Such a consideration is wholly unacceptable and a total abrogation of our government’s moral and legal responsibility to the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedoms. As you know, the mission of the VA is “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan.” Similarly, the VA emphasizes that it will “provide veterans the world-class benefits and services they have earned—and to do so by adhering to the highest standards of compassion, commitment, excellence, professionalism, integrity, accountability, and stewardship.” Unfortunately, the proposal to bill veterans for the care of their service-connected disabilities ignores the most important aspect of this vision—that their care has been earned. This proposal ignores the solemn obligation that this country has to care for those men and women who have served this country with distinction and are left with the wounds and scars of that service. The blood spilled in service for this nation is the premium that service-connected veterans have paid for their earned care. We understand and accept that the VA bills third-party insurers of veterans who are treated for non-service connected conditions. However, we cannot and would not agree to any proposal that would expand this concept any further. There is simply no logical explanation for billing a veteran’s personal insurance for care that the VA has a responsibility to provide. While we understand the fiscal difficulties this country faces right now, placing the burden of those fiscal problems on the men and women who have already sacrificed a great deal for this country is unconscionable. If in fact your Administration is considering this proposal, we would like to meet with The American Legion 1608 K Street, N.W. Former addict gives homeless veterans a second chance Go To This Link To Watch The Video... http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/02/19/heroes.roy.foster/index.html#cnnSTCVideo PALM BEACH, Florida (CNN) -- Following a faint trail through a dense patch of woods in Florida's Palm Beach County, Roy Foster is a man on a mission. Roy Foster's facility, Stand Down House, has helped about 900 male veterans since 2000. Roy Foster's facility, Stand Down House, has helped about 900 male veterans since 2000. Click to view previous image 1 of 2 Click to view next image Foster, 53, is searching for homeless veterans -- and he knows where to look. Whether in a vacant lot behind a supermarket or a small clearing off the highway, homeless vets aren't that hard to find: One in three homeless adults has served in the military, and more than 150,000 veterans nationwide are homeless on any given night, according to the Veterans Administration. Working with the sheriff's homeless outreach unit, Foster finds vets camped in tents or makeshift lean-tos, where he delivers a message: There's help for you if you want it. "For our heroes to be living in [these] conditions, it's totally unacceptable," said Foster. Since 2000, approximately 900 veterans have found life-changing help at Foster's facility, Stand Down House. Named for the military command that gives troops time to rest after arduous duty, the program provides homeless male vets food, shelter and a safe place to recover, as well as the tools to conquer their personal problems. "The idea is that they can relax now; we'll take care of them," Foster said. Foster's motivation to help these men is personal: He used to be one of them. Born in rural Georgia, he joined the Army right after high school. During his six years in the military, he began drinking and experimenting with drugs. He was an alcoholic by the time he left the Army in 1980, and his drinking and drug use escalated as he struggled to adjust to civilian life. He spent the next decade battling his addictions, and at his lowest, he slept in flophouses or on the streets. "I was pretty much out of control," Foster said. "I felt hopeless, helpless, ashamed and inadequate." While struggling to get clean, Foster had difficulty finding a program that accepted veterans and provided the recovery services he needed, he said. The experience inspired him to design a program specifically for his brothers-in-arms. "That's when the commitment in my heart was born," Foster said. Don't Miss * Get involved: Stand Down House * In Depth: CNN Heroes By the early 1990s, Foster settled into a life of sobriety, becoming a substance abuse counselor. Seeing that many vets continued to fall through the cracks, he joined forces with another vet, the late Don Reed, and established the nonprofit Faith*Hope*Love*Charity. After six years, Faith*Hope*Love*Charity created Stand Down House. Now five buildings in total, Stand Down House provides transitional housing and support services to 45 veterans in different stages of recovery. When vets arrive -- through referral by the Veterans Administration, which largely funds the program -- they receive meals, housing, clothing, counseling and transportation to the VA hospital for additional medical and mental health care. After 30 to 60 days, eligible veterans must begin to look for work or attend school, but they can continue receiving housing, case management, addiction counseling and life skills classes for as long as two years. Successful veterans are eligible for the program's final component: permanent, sober-living housing. Video Watch Foster seek out homeless veterans with the county sheriff » The camaraderie the veterans find with each other at Stand Down House is another vital component of their recovery process. "It was great to realize that other vets had been through similar experiences," said Matt Robinson, 28, who served in Iraq as a member of the U.S. Army National Guard. Video Watch Robinson describe his experience at Stand Down House » With their past as a common bond, vets often become informal counselors to each other, helping one another stay on track. "We have each others' backs," said Joey Elluzzi, a Vietnam veteran. Many graduates find the companionship so valuable that they return as volunteers. As of 2008, Stand Down House reported that 93 percent of its eligible residents found work and 84 percent of graduates went on to live independently. Foster and his staff are now working with other programs around the country, sharing what they've learned. Despite his program's success, Foster said, there's more work to do. A new wave of veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan is appearing at Stand Down House, and Foster said he's determined to serve -- and save -- this next generation. When asked why he does this, he simply answers, "It's my calling." Video Watch Foster talk about his mission to help homeless veterans » advertisement But for those Foster has helped, there's nothing simple about his achievements. "If you could see the people when they come in here -- how they look, act and smell -- and then see them after, being a positive part of society, I don't know how you couldn't call Roy a hero," veteran Keith Coleman said. "Think of all the lives he's changed."

Please read this, then send it to everybody you know. They'll thank you as they forward this to others as well. Photobucket Don't know whether you heard about this but Denzel Washington and his family visited the troops at Brook Army Medical Center, in San Antonio , Texas (BAMC) the other day. This is where soldiers who have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the United States, especially burn victims. There are some buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher House is a Hotel where soldiers' families can stay, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the Hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base, but as you can imagine, they are almost filled most of the time. While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build. He took his check book out and wrote a check for the full amount right there on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story and want to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it. The question I have is why does: Alec Baldwin, Madonna, Sean Penn and other Hollywood types make front page news with their anti-everything America trash and Denzel Washington's Patriotism doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of any newspaper except the Local newspaper in San Antonio . PTSD - What is it?

WHAT IS PTSD? Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a distinct set of psychological symptoms that a person may develop after an especially horrifying or traumatic experience. This experience usually includes a threat to physical safety, or the safety of a companion or loved one, and results in feelings of helplessness, fear, and horror at the time of the event. When the psychological impact of such an event does not diminish, but instead continues to affect a person's quality of life for months and years afterward, a diagnosis of PTSD may be appropriate. PTSD YESTERDAY AND TODAY Historically, PTSD was most commonly recognized in combat veterans who repeatedly witnessed and experienced violent and life-threatening events. It was known among military personnel as "shell shock" or "battle fatigue." In the early 1980's, these symptoms became recognized as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Currently, PTSD is understood to affect hundreds of thousands of men and women, both military and civilian. It can be triggered by events including combat exposure, sexual assault, abuse, accidents, and natural disasters. The most common symptoms of PTSD are: * sleep disturbance * avoidance of reminders of the event * mental and emotional replays of the event * a tendency to become easily startled * hypervigilance (hyper-awareness of possible threats) * difficulties in recognizing or expressing emotion (feeling, numb, detached, or depressed) Anyone can experience temporary PTSD symptoms as part of the normal response to traumatic stress – a motor vehicle accident, for example. But when these symptoms persist or even increase over time, the condition is identified as PTSD. In delayed-onset PTSD, which sometimes occurs, a person begins to experience these symptoms months or even years after the trauma, rather than immediately after it. ************************************************** I got this from the following site: http://www.ncire.org/spotlight_ptsd.php for more information.

6 Boys - 12 Hands

Each year I am hired to go to Washington, DC , with the eighth grade class from Clinton , WI where I grew up, to videotape their trip. I greatly enjoy visiting our nation's capitol, and each year I take some special memories back with me. This fall's trip was especially memorable. On the last night of our trip, we stopped at the Iwo Jima memorial. This memorial is the largest bronze statue in the world and depicts one of the most famous photographs in history -- that of the six brave soldiers raising the American Flag at the top of a rocky hill on the island of Iwo Jima, Japan, during WW II. Over one hundred students and chaperones piled off the buses and headed towards the memorial. I noticed a solitary figure at the base of the statue, and as I got closer he asked, 'Where are you guys from?' I told him that we were from Wisconsin 'Hey, I'm a cheese head, too! Come gather around, Cheese heads, and I will tell you a story.' ( James Bradley just happened to be in Washington , DC, to speak at the memorial the following day. He was there that night to say good night to his dad, who had passed away. He was just about to leave when he saw the buses pull up. I videotaped him as he spoke to us, and received his permission to share what he said from my videotape. It is one thing to tour the incredible monuments filled with history in Washington, D.C., but it is quite another to get the kind of insight we received that night.) When all had gathered around, he reverently began to speak. (Here are his words that night.) My name is James Bradley and I'm from Antigo, Wisconsin. My dad is on that statue, and I just wrote a book called ' Flags of Our Fathers' which is #5 on the New York Times Best Seller list right now. It is the story of the six boys you see behind me. 'Six boys raised the flag. The first guy putting the pole in the ground is Harlon Block. Harlon was an all-state football player. He enlisted in the Marine Corps with all the senior members of his football team. They were off to play another type of game. A game called 'War.' But it didn't turn out to be a game. Harlon, at the age of 21, died with his intestines in his hands. I don't say that to gross you out, I say that because there are people who stand in front of this statue and talk about the glory of war. You guys need to know that most of the boys in Iwo Jima were 17, 18, and 19 years old - and it was so hard that the ones who did make it home never even would talk to their families about it. (He pointed to the statue) 'You see this next guy? That's Rene Gagnon from New Hampshire. If you took Rene's helmet off at the moment this photo was taken and looked in the webbing of that helmet, you would find a photograph... a photograph of his girlfriend. Rene put that in there for protection because he was scared. He was 18 years old. It was just boys who won the battle of Iwo Jima. Boys. Not old men. 'The next guy here, the third guy in this tableau, was Sergeant Mike Strank. Mike is my hero. He was the hero of all these guys. They called him the 'old man' because he was so old. He was already 24.. When Mike would motivate his boys in training camp, he didn't say, 'Let's go kill some Japanese' or 'Let's die for our country.' He knew he was talking to little boys. Instead he would say, 'You do what I say, and I'll get you home to your mothers.' 'The last guy on this side of the statue is Ira Hayes, a Pima Indian from Arizona. Ira Hayes was one who walked off Iwo Jima. He went into the White House with my dad. President Truman told him, 'You're a hero.' He told reporters, 'How can I feel like a hero when 250 of my buddies hit the island with me and only 27 of us walked off alive?' So you take your class at school, 250 of you spending a year together having fun, doing everything together. Then all 250 of you hit the beach, but only 27 of your classmates walk off alive. That was Ira Hayes. He had images of horror in his mind. Ira Hayes carried the pain home with him and eventually died dead drunk, face down at the age of 32 (ten years after this picture was taken). 'The next guy, going around the statue, is Franklin Sousley from Hilltop, Kentucky . A fun-lovin' hillbilly boy. His best friend, who is now 70, told me, 'Yeah, you know, we took two cows up on the porch of the Hilltop General Store. Then we strung wire across the stairs so the cows couldn't get down. Then we fed them Epsom salts. Those cows crapped all night.' Yes, he was a fun-lovin' hillbilly boy. Franklin died on Iwo Jima at the age of 19. When the telegram came to tell his mother that he was dead, it went to the Hilltop General Store. A barefoot boy ran that telegram up to his mother's farm. The neighbors could hear her scream all night and into the morning. Those neighbors lived a quarter of a mile away. 'The next guy, as we continue to go around the statue, is my dad, John Bradley from Antigo, Wisconsin, where I was raised. My dad lived until 1994 but he would never give interviews. When Walter Cronkite 's producers or the New York Times would call, we were trained as little kids to say 'No, I'm sorry, sir, my dad's not here. He is in Canada fishing. No, there is no phone there, sir. No, we don't know when he is coming back.' My dad never fished or even went to Canada. Usually, he was sitting there right at the table eating his Campbell's soup. But we had to tell the press that he was out fishing. He didn't want to talk to the press. You see, like Ira Hayes, my dad didn't see himself as a hero. Everyone thinks these guys are heroes, 'cause they are in a photo and on a monument. My dad knew better. He was a medic. John Bradley from Wisconsin was a caregiver. In Iwo Jima he probably held over 200 boys as they died. And when boys died in Iwo Jima, they writhed and screamed, without any medication or help with the pain. When I was a little boy, my third grade teacher told me that my dad was a hero. When I went home and told my dad that, he looked at me and said, 'I want you always to remember that the heroes of Iwo Jima are the guys who did not come back. Did NOT come back.' 'So that's the story about six nice young boys. Three died on Iwo Jima, and three came back as national heroes. Overall, 7,000 boys died on Iwo Jima in the worst battle in the history of the Marine Corps. My voice is giving out, so I will end here. Thank you for your time.' Suddenly, the monument wasn't just a big old piece of metal with a flag sticking out of the top. It came to life before our eyes with the heartfelt words of a son who did indeed have a father who was a hero. Maybe not a hero for the reasons most people would believe, but a hero nonetheless. We need to remember that God created this vast and glorious world for us to live in, freely, but also at great sacrifice. Let us never forget from the Revolutionary War to the current War on Terrorism and all the wars in-between that sacrifice was made for our freedom. Remember to pray praises for this great country of ours and also pray for those still in murderous unrest around the world. STOP and thank God for being alive and being free at someone else's sacrifice. God Bless You and God Bless America. REMINDER: Everyday that you can wake up free, it's going to be a great day. Great story - worth your time - worth every American's time. William A. Her daddy joined the Army when he was 18 was sent to NAM, when he got home he got out of the military than went back in; he felt it was his place to be. For the last 13 years her daddy had suffered from every medical condition you could imagine, from an amputated leg, kidney failure, and eventually heart failure. He was exposed to AGENT Orange in NAM and all these years fought for his life to be her daddy. Many people whom fought in NAM and have been exposed to AGENT Orange have and still are experiencing the same health issues but she is the only one I know who personally had to experience her father SLOWLY fail through out the years. He died on August 4, 2007. Please go show this girl some love, I could NOT imagine going through what she had to. She has an amazing strength and it needs to be recognized. You Make A Difference To Me! I love my friends! Simply said... You guys take away the loneliness of my nights You make me smile I feel comfort after my many nightmares, just knowing that I just have to look at my computer to find a friend. Some one that I can talk to and get the nasty images out of my head while sharing some laughs and conversation. I feel like I belong somewhere. Yes I have friends here where I live but I don't want to wake them to talk lol Someone is almost always around here. You guys are my dream catchers... my friends... my family. Please watch this video... Pass it along. You not only make a difference to me... but others too. Luv ya all I Am Blessed For Having The Wonderful Friends I Do I Am Blessed For Having My Gorgeous Son. I Am Blessed To Be Apart Of Your Lives. Thank You!! God Bless You, Your Families, & Let Us Never Forget Those In The Military & Their Families... Past & Present
