Today in the snow

So today was pretty uneventful. I woke up around 8am and started writing my lecture for Tuesday night. I looked out at the snow, which was pouring buckets, and realized if I wanted to get anything done, it should be quick. At noon I went out, got my glasses fixed, tried to get rock salt (no luck) and purchased three Estes rockets for Tuesday night. Got home. The Hubby called, said she was on her way home from Philly, and asked how bad things were weather wise. At this point I'd shoveled the walks 3 times, and it was still coming down hard. 3pm she called, and offered to cab home, about a 15 minute cab ride. Since I wasn't in the mood to risk an accident, she went ahead and took one home. We spent the afternoon watching the series "Special Unit 2." If you're a Horror/Scifi fan, this is definitely worth a checkout. Spent the evening watching a special on Nazi predections (ala Nostradamus) which was pretty good, then went on to Battlestar Galactica. Now its time for bed :). Hoping the Government will be closed tomorrow, but not betting on it.

Yay!

Finally got a Salute photo approved. Just needed a webcam with better resolution ;)

Things I did today

Wife is out of town with a boyfriend this weekend, so I decided now that I'm gainfully employed again to do some cool stuff for myself. Went out to the car, and discovered someone had been messing with my gas cap. They'd opened the door, opened the cap, and closed the door with the cap still off. Several cars in the lots had their doors open. Time to call the HOA and bitch about security. Started the car, and the "engine warning" light came on. At this point, I'm ready to go back to bed, but I went down any way, and made the following purchases: 1. Avermedia tv capture card 2. 2 USB hubs 3. Logitech quickcam. The Avermedia is very very cool. You can be expecting lots of new pictures because of it. I just plugged it into the cable tv line, into the USB port, installed the software, and I now have 99 channels of basic cable. (alas, movie channels require a digital tuner, which I've yetto see in a computer card) USB hubs. One for me, one for the wifey. We've just got way too much USB stuff between us. Logitech Quick Cam -- I got the Quickcam Communicate STX. I had a cheapo hong kong camera, and the resolution sucked. This one has great resolution, and a mic. The mic driver didn't install properly, so gotta talk to Logitech about that. Don't care much anyway, I use a headset. I'm on Skype, and Yahoo, and AIM, if you want to video chat. Forgot to get a new mousepad... Maybe tomorrow. So its supposed to snow feet here in D.C... We'll see. So its a night at the house alone, probably a bottle of wine, some leftover chili, and online fun....

Salute photo got rejected

Oh Well, what can you do. Webcam sucks.

Advice and kind of a rant

Okay I know not everyone is a geek, but if you're smart enough to cut and past tags for images, you might be able to do this. Lots of the images people post here are waaaay to big. The just take up real estate on the screen. and, with some minor modifications, you can fix it. The way you do this is to add "width = " to your image tag, for example: img src="http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k284/sparkletags/DarkTags/haveaverycherryiliciousdayJ.gif" alt="Courtesy of MsTags.com" border="0" Becomes img src="http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k284/sparkletags/DarkTags/haveaverycherryiliciousdayJ.gif" alt="Courtesy of MsTags.com" border="0" width="200" and how does that look? Can't decide what the purpose of Cherry Tap is. There are a few people I actually have conversations with, but most of the time its looking at pictures, giving ratings, and seeing all the contests that appear. I do have to admit having entered one, out of sheer amusement. Still thinking a D.C. get together this weekend would be cool. Doubt it's gonna happen.

Other things I hate

Okay, the pictures in profiles and comments are cool, but people, can we please learn to use size tags? They are huge, fill up the screen, and are just annoying sometimes.
Day two of work today. First Government job (well government contractor), and it's amazing how much sitting and waiting gets done at these jobs. I don't know whether it's so much inefficiency is that everyone has their job, and god forbid you should do someone elses for a second to make it more efficient. Example: We were "bringing up" an old machione for a security audit. I received a notice that in order to do the audit, we needed to do some updates. I asked my boss if I could just update the machine. I was told "No, call ... You are a Unix System Administrator, not a Windows System Administrator" Ignore my 21 years of Windows experience (Yes, it goes back to Windows 3.0), and the fact I've probably built and configured more P.C.'s in my life than the technician who spent 2 hours doing a windows update. Well, At least the pay is high. perhaps more about the commute tomorrow, I'm going to lunch with my boss, should be interesting.
So, I've been on Cherry tap about a week now, maybe less. Right now it mostly seems to consist of: a) People commenting on profiles. b) People posting pictures. c) People voting on pictures. d) Various voting contests. Ya know, that's all well and good, but what about getting to know people. Blogs are hard to read (You have to go through them one at a time, and the Alerts box isn't showing blog updates), Bulletins are just well, impersonal. I came here primarily to meet, and learn about interesting people, which everyone seems to be, but I'm wading through so much mindless stuff to get there. I think I may decide to only vote on one picture per friend per day at this point. Right now, it takes me too long to surf through all of them. Rant off from Klandon, whose bulletin's don't get read anyway.
