I work the Front Desk of a hotel. The owner had to leave on Thur, for a Family emergency & won't be back until Tues. not only was I left "in charge", but so was the bookkeeper. The bookkeeper has decided, she's the only one that is "acting manager" & refuses to allow me to do anything, other than what I do. Front Desk. Since we are a Non Smoking hotel & with the history of this property (from previous owners), if you are paying with cash or debit, you have to have a $200.00 deposit. Preferably, in cash, so we can give it right back, if you didn't smoke in your room.
We had a lady check in a couple days ago, with a deposit. When she checked out yesterday, she not only forgot to get her deposit, but she left an 18k gold ring & necklace in her room. The housekeeper brought it to me, where I put it with the her deposit. I made 4 attempts to contact this woman, but her phone would do a half ring & then go to dead air. Just as I was getting off work, at 3p, the woman came in & asked about it. I gladly handed it over to her. Extremely happy, she took out $50.00 & handed it to me, saying "please split this with the people involved in finding my stuff & keeping it for me". Which is myself & the housekeeper. So, I took $20.00 & gave the housekeeper $30.00.
Today, I get to work & was told by the bookkeeper to not clock in, until I get that $20.00 that I illegally claimed & bring it to the housekeeper, since it was her room & I had no right to this money. There were 4 witnesses to the exchange yesterday, but none of them were in the office today. So, basically, it was my word against the housekeeper, in her favor. Even though I am extremely irate, I gave the whiner the $20.00 & have been ignoring everyone since. I feel humiliated, treated unfairly & think it is total BS.
Now, I don't know how to handle the situation from here...I love my job & the people that owns this hotel, but after everything that has happened here lately, I am trying to keep myself from moving on from here.. |
