Do you know what it’s like
to be both happy and sad?
Feeling so utterly confused
you feel like you could just go mad?
How can you be falling
when you feel like you’re flying?
So scared to open your eyes
you just feel like crying
How can you be drowning
when you know you’re breathing air?
You really don’t know how to say it
so you just stand there and stare
I love you
I wanna be with you the rest of my life
That’s all you want to say
But you try to open up your mouth
and your courage runs away
Hoping that your words
will be conveyed through the look in your eyes
you know you could explain how you feel
all you have to do is try
You’re afraid to take a leap of faith
you’re afraid to take a chance
you want to go ahead and jump
but you’re afraid of how hard you might land
Your tender heart is like an egg
so very easy to break
But you know that broken things can be fixed
so a chance you decide to take
You pack yourself a parachute
so it won’t be so hard to land
but you hope that you won’t have to use it
The person begins to walk away
and then you grab their hand
So you finally prepared yourself
for taking that leap
Unsure of where you will land
but your hope you still keep
You go ahead and make that jump
you tell them you feel this way
Just enough so they know what’s going on
but not too much to scare them away
You know you have to wait awhile
before you will get to the ground
They need a little time to think things over
so you try not to look down
You silently scream as faster you fall
you’re holding that parachute string tight
The ground zooms ominously towards you
you hope your timing is right
You’re just about to pull that string
just waiting for the word
Not knowing whether you’ll glide down into his arms
or fall like a flightless bird
I fell so fast
I fell so far
But very surprisingly
I didn’t fall hard
I thought I would smash
right into the ground
That my heart would break into pieces
never again to be found
But instead of leaving a crater in the earth
I bounced back on my feet
Hitting the ground left a sting that hurt
but not as much as you’d think
My parachute failed me
and my wings gave out
but my strong will landed me
on a softer piece of ground
I staggered for awhile
I was dazed and confused
I have a scar on my heart
that was left from loving you
But my scar has healed
The flesh was made tough
And now I know that if I fall again
the landing won’t be so rough
The next time I jump
I’ll take a chance
I’ll take advantage
of my circumstance
I’ll take another leap of faith
I’ll attempt once again to fly
And at least this time if I happen to fall
I know that my heart won’t die
