The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement....
Yes, the organization is real. They even have a website, http://www.vhemt.org/
Their philosophy:
Phasing out the human race by voluntarily ceasing to breed will allow Earth's biosphere to return to good health. Crowded conditions and resource shortages will improve as we become less dense.
Alright, I have ranted and vented about the human population and the planetary ecosphere enough times concerning this type of stuff.
Humans dont have to volunteer for anything dealing with the reduction of the human race.
Consider:
Natural Disaster:
There are six known super volcanoes on the planet, four of them with in the borders of the US, Yellowstone, Long Valley California, and two in New Mexico.
Now, if any one of these were to erupt, the ash, dust, and sulfur compounds in the upper atmosphere would solve the global warming period.
Of course, the volcanic winter would bring on another Ice Age resulting in the death of about 60% of the human population.
Considering some of the stupid things done in the name of science, I figure some rock geek will do something stupid and set one of these things off.
Asteroid or Comet collision:
A large comet comes in from sunward, by the time we figure out it is there, it is too late. Comet hits earth, big boom, global firestorm, 90% of the human race goes up in smoke, the rest of us come out from under what rocks we took shelter, look around at the mess and some lady will say...
"someone get me a broom, we have got to clean this up."
Now, a guy is gonna look around, decide to organize a group to take stock and start rebuilding and quite probably make the same mistakes again.
Pandemic:
Forget bird flu.
Some hotshot filthy rich couple are going to go on one of those 'ecotours' in a part of the world that hasnt seen a human since the stoneage.
This couple will pick up some virus that makes Ebola look like the chicken pox, and on their way back home, they will spread the bug at every airport... and bingo, 48 hours later, half the world is sick, getting sick, or dead, with more getting sick every day.
End result, 80% of human population wiped out.
Manmade disaster:
Simple, some terrorist type idiot gets ahold of a nuke, detonates it, nobody figures out it was the act of a terrorist group and everybody with nukes starts firing them.
Call it urban renewal on a global scale.
