Way to go... STREET SENSE!!!

Good Morning and I trust you had a good weekend. Wow a quick weekend was had by me. Whew, that was a fast one, the weekend started out with various events happening on Saturday. First and foremost, well for our little corner of the world was the grand floral parade. Which is just a term used to make the parade sound bigger then it is. There were 124 entrees into the Blossom Parade for which it is better known. This parade showcases area queens who won their local community pageants / contests you name it. Mandy did not ride the float but played in the school band in front of our float. Might I add…our school float was hideous. Many schools participated in constructing floats for their schools (communities) queen and court. Most schools used petal paper (you know the frilly almost iridescent blow and wave in the wind paper) ours did not… They (the float builders, ie the queens’ parents, runner ups and Ms Congeniality parents) thought that petal paper was too expensive. So here comes our float after our (Coloma Schools) band played and was marvelous might I add and in comes this….oh how do I explain how ugly this thing looked? Ok, I got it… say you gave 5 kindergartners 100.00 dollars and told them to erect a moveable float for the Macy’s day parade. Included would be flower arrangements and oh it has to hold 5 or six people, the Queen her court and the bud prince and princess. Oh let’s not forget Mr Coloma and his court.. so 8 to 9 people. … I tell you this, it now shows how cheap our community went on the float compared to others. It was not about the money, we had sponsors and money left over. The float builders are always the Coloma Court’s parents. Who ever designed this must have been on Quaaludes…My gosh was it hideous. Oh well enough on that. So the parade was cool. There were Marching bands from all participating schools and some from non-participating as well. My understanding of the non-participating schools was they wanted to hold a contest for their royalty which paved a way to the Miss Michigan Pageant. Blossom time is not recognized by Miss Michigan Pageants due to various reasons… Those I am not privy to. So all in all their were some 36 bands and some great marching skills. Benton Harbor always puts on a great show. I put them in the class of the bands in the south. The big school bands that have the huge half-time shows. The whole Drum-line thing if you ever seen the Movie Drum Line then you can understand the amount of work that goes into a presentation of this kind. Benton Harbor never gets a good rap, but when their marching band performs it’s a thing of beauty I applaud them, as I did and many others did as they passed by thousands of people line up between the two cities Saint Joseph and Benton Harbor Michigan. I can not stress how important having pride is in ones band. It means a lot, so Parents, Grand Parents of band kids be proud of your kids. Make them proud. If you do, you will see excellence at it’s best.. So the parade was a hit, our float sucked and then their was the Kentucky Derby. Street Sense was my call from the start. That horse is just truly amazing to watch. It showed why it will win the triple crown this year. While bunched up and in 19th place of 20 entry’s that horse maneuvered in and out of other horse’s contending to capture this years Kentucky Derby. Those of you who have not seen it, it can be seen again by logging into Kentucky Derby .com or Churchill Downs .com either way even if you are not a horse racing fan a look at a true winner can be seen in that horse and it’s Jockey. In our league Coloma Nags. Jean from Mississippi won overall and was 590th out of 21,580 players congrats Jean you now can be looked at as a true Race efficient Otto or something of that nature. Nice going. Well I had more weekend left but my fingees is tired. Cinco-D-mayo was also on tap this weekend, much more weekend then I had time for… So back to work today and may all of you have a wonderful and marvelous day ahead. A huge hug and a pat Mart
