Talented Dogs

_puppyjumps.gif

Although I currently don't own any animals (I used to travel for work a lot - So ...) I've always enjoyed having pets. They are more like friends than another mouth to feed. Growing up I had just about every domesticated animal you could think of: Stray cats and dogs that would just 'follow' one of the five kids home. The wild ones that our mom would let us nurse to health -- until they were ready to go back to the wild. I even chickens and all ... (although I never could figure out which ones were crispy and which were original) *rolls eyes* f12414eb.gif Dogs have always been a part of our family, and threw the years I've had some "Best Friends" that I'll never forget. I was the classic "Boy and his dog" story. Those dogs always have their doggie watch set to my time, knowing when and what to expect when I returned from school. (I spoiled every one of them, with bringing treats home from my sack lunch.) walkingdogsm.gif I've had some talented dogs threw out my life. I've trained them little tricks here and there, but I talking about some neat things they 'picked up' on their own. It never was a certain breed that was smarter or more clever than the other either. I've had all sorts, from mutts to pedigreed ... they all had their own personality. They picked up fun traits or habits on their own. I rescued this one old fell from being destroyed (an Irish setter mix) he had lived out side in a box with his former owner. I took this friendly guy (who had been hit by a car) and had a hard time walking, and made him an indoor dog. I think he was 8 when I took him in ... and who says you "cant teach an old dog a new trick" He learn quickly how to 'ask' to be let out to do his business. Soon (by himself) he'd just walk over an 'nudge' me. If that didn't work, he would grab his leash (I draped over the door knob) and bring it to me. I didn't teach him that, he never was even 'walked' for his first 8 years -- but, he learn that on his own! Poor thing was just so skittish around cars though (white ones the most) I could go on and on about him, but I had many that picked up tricks seemingly all on their own. I had a mutt that would follow me everywhere, when it was a puppy. It followed me to a school yard once. As I went up the tall later to go down the slide lo and behold if that dog didn't follow me up and down it! (this is one of those old fashion metal slides they used to make that were 10-12 foot tall - don't think they make them anymore)? Old Barney was the school yard dog until he died, doing the slide ... I wonder how many kids got in trouble for lying to their parents about the dog that would go down the slide? I've had dancing dogs, singing dogs, dogs that seem to try to talk. Please go to my Make Up My Mind (MUMM) "Talented Dogs" right here on: "Lost Cherry" stbernard.gif (click the dog) Dog and their stories are fun and unique, tell me about one of your pets 'self-taught' talents!
