CASARES, Spain -- The European Tour fears the Czech Open is about to become the third tournament lost from the 2012 calendar because of financial difficulties. Keith Waters, the European Tours Director of International Policy, will meet in London on Thursday with the owner of Prosper Golf Resort that had been scheduled to host the event from Aug. 16-19 at Celadna, Czech Republic. "While he has regional support for the tournament to go ahead, he doesnt have national government support," Waters said of owner Stanislav Pros. "The last conversation I have with him and his team was that they didnt have the money to stage the tournament this year, and one can easily understand that in these tough economic times. "Im not sure if hes coming to London tomorrow on business or just coming to deliver the bad news personally. So I am not that optimistic." The Czech Open was first held in 1994 and has been staged at Prosper Golf Resort for the past three years, including when Peter Hanson of Sweden won in 2010 to secure his place in the European Ryder Cup team that year. "It would be a big disappointment if the Czech Open did not go ahead as I have so many special memories from that week," Hanson said. "Hopefully, if its not held this year then the situation may improve and we can see it return to the schedule in coming years." Waters also said that the change of government in France is unlikely to stop the country staging the 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National course near Versailles. Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy had given strong support to the event, stating it was a priority along with securing Euro 2016 and bidding to host the 2018 Winter Olympics after the loss to London for the 2012 Summer Olympics. "The fact there is a new government in France should not change the buildup to the 2018 Ryder Cup as all the arrangements are already set in place," Waters said. "The strong point in Frances favour is that the French Golf Federation drove the 2018 Ryder Cup bid, and it was their members across the country that supported it.
